Vivian had her check up earlier this week and we just assumed it was a bad diaper rash - her doctor said it looked more like a yeast infection type rash - so we used a mixture of lotrimin and hydrocourtisin(sp) cream and it cleared up in just a day and a half - just a suggestion if the diaper rash isn't clearing with normal diaper cream.

I second that....Dulse recently developed a rash and regular Destin wasn't helping it. The pediatrician recommended the same concoction - and it worked like a charm!

I just want to say that I remember the doctor telling me you can't use any kind of cortisone or steroidal stuff around the genital area because of the very thin skin there. I've been through this and I'm so glad you had an easy solution!

You can use hydrocortisone on infants and toddlers but only for 2-3 days...never any longer.

Kids absorb medications through their skin at a much greater rate than adults because they have a greater body surface area compared to their weight. Topical steriods can suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Used long term, topical steriods can suppress growth and development....this is straight from my most recent pharmacology textbook.

So use the LOWEST available strength and use sparingly in short durations.

PS. My favorite diaper mix is Lotrimin, Desitin, Vaseline, and cornstarch. Thankfully, Trey is now potty trained.

Thank you for the tip on how long to use. We were there on Tuesday and will only use it tomorrow yet and then just preventive diaper cream. We didn't start using it until Wednesday.
