I realized moments ago just how much Hurricane Katrina freaked people out. I went to Wal-Mart and I figured it would be kind of crazy since rumor had it there was no bottled water since yesterday, but I never dreamed how frantic people are. Maybe it's because I have lived in Louisiana my entire life so hurricanes don't scare me much. Let's just say as they were rolling in the water right off the kentwood truck people were loading cases into their buggies and the same went for batteries!!
How many of you out there have an eye on Gustave? Are you planning to evacuate if it heads your way? We're staying put as of now because the closest track won't be out until Saturday and we have a generator so we're ok!

We are in NORTH Mississippi and people are crazy here. I cannot imagine the scene closer to the coast. Katrina took off our roof and we are hundreds of miles from the ocean so I do understand the fear. Glad we are traveling to Michigan saturday. I just hope the roads aren't too crowded. I am keeping an eye on the storms and praying for those in the path.

We won't be affected here in Philadelphia but I am praying for everyone in the storm's path.
Does anyone know the Houston forecast for Sunday? We have to fly through there for our pick-up trip.

I'm in SW FL and I am not threatened by Gustav but my heart sank when I saw it's "cone of possiblity". My prayers are with all those families that are undoubtedly hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. Stay safe!

Hey girl! You know we have our eyes on Gustav. Kevin is obsessing over it. I don't want to leave, but he has our hotel rooms booked in someplace called Mansfield, Texas. I didn't argue because I figured we can always cancel if we decide not to leave. Our biggest fear is the four 30+ foot pine trees very near our house.... Ah, the pleasures of living in southeast Louisiana.

I'm praying for everyone in it's path. I know the last thing that area of LA needs is a big hurricane.
We are leaving Saturday for the panhandle of FL for a week. GREAT timing we have! And if that's not bad enough, we live in Central FL and just got through Fay and now Hannah is out there currently looking like a possible thread to central FL. So, our luck we'll have to drive back home anyway if that is forecast to come here. |

We'll be leaving with patients just as soon as I get the word on when. I heard a rumor that Texas was shutting it's borders when a mandatory evacuation was set forth.. Don't know how true that is.

We aren't freaking out yet, but we're watching the Weather Channel constantly. We always evacuate....it's not worth riding it out and taking that chance.... After living in GC for 5 days in a hotel room I don't look forward to the possibility of that happening again. 6 of us would sure fill up a room!!! My dh works for the public school system here, and he will be on call..... He can evacuate with us, but he will have to come back home right after the storm. After Ivan we were without power for 2 weeks. That's so hard with kids, not to mention the heat of the south with no ac.
Praying for everyone in the path.

Well folks we were notified that our school will be closed through Wednesday and our parish is calling a mandatory evacuation as of noon tommorow. We're not too overly concerned since it's still days out and we have so much to get done before we can leave. I'll be posting the photos I took of the inflatable levees that were put up near pur home! Our side of the MS RIver has NO fllod levees so this path of the storm is being CLOSELY watched!!

keeping everyone in my thoughts this weekend
I'm on the West Coast of Florida and am breathing a sigh of relief that Gustov has taken a track away from us. I'm keeping those of you that are now in the track in my thoughts and prayers. Stay safe everyone!

If you all want to see a rather interesting thing the corps of engineers has come up with for flood protection in my area check out the photos on my blog!! It's these big tubes that are filled with water, banded together, and placed along the bayou sides to slow the flow of water if the bayous were to flood. I'm not sure how things are goign to work or if they even will, but I guess we'll see!!
I'm still watching the storm and trying to decide whether to heed the warning or stay for a little longer to wait and see. I guess I don't have much time to decide though since contraflow goes into affect tommorow evening!

We're here with you! We cancelled our reservations in Texas (since it may be going that way), made new reservations in Atlanta, and are currently trying to decide whether to stay or go. Sigh. I guess we'll decide tomorrow morning.
