Question grayish spots on front teeth?

When we brought our little guy home he had a small black spot on one of his front teeth. It has slowly enlarged. When I asked the pediatrician he said it was just a discoloration on the enamel and not to worry. I also noticed a spot now on his other front tooth that seems new. Has anyone else experienced this with their little one. I am planning to bring him to the dentist next week. I am worried he may have fallen in Guat and damaged the roots of them (at least that is what the dentist office said when I discussed it over the phone). They do not feel they are cavities due to the his age and location.

If it is from trauma to the root do they remove the teeth. HE is only 16 months and well he would be toothless there for at least 6 years. Any Dental specialists with insight or other parents have experienced this.

All insight welcome.
Thanks in advance

I would get the dentist to do an x-ray. After I got my braces off as a teen, one of by back was grayish looking, but I kept being told that it was just a stain. Then, 10 years later, a new dentist looked at my x-rays from the previous dentist and immediately suspected that it was decay. He drilled it, and sure enough, half the tooth was rotted away. He ended up putting a huge filling on it and said that it will likely need a root canal and/or crown later on, though so far I haven't had any problems with it. This was a back tooth, so I'm not sure if the same would go for a front tooth, but be sure to mention that the spots have been growing.

My daughter had a dark grey spot on one of her bottom front baby teeth. I actually tried to pick it off, and the dentist took one look at it and said it was decay. They took out the cavity and filled it and that was it. A lot of her molars she had where very discolored. She was maulnourished for her first 3 years of life so it severly affected her enamel. She has had cavities and 1 pulpotomy as well. Let us know what you find out. I have seen kids that have grey teeth from meds, and also trauma to the teeth like you mentioned. It could be any of those. Good Luck! Karen

Both my boys have this discoloring on their top teeth. I took them to a pediatric dentist and he said it was due to poor prenatal care. They both take daily vitamins and as long as they continue to do so their permanent teeth should be just fine.

my son had this....his tooth turned black, then started to turn back to white, then ended up grey...he had damaged his tooth in a little accident with eli. the tooth was actually broken deep inside near the root..and the tooth had to be removed. he was 4 1/2...and after another xray the dentist said we should expect the new tooth at age 7. i have a toothless wonder....and we are actually waiting on one more tooth....we think he'll have to have that one out too for hte same reason. when i was reading online about this, it appeared to be somewhat common for boys aged, just in case this is what has to happen, know that your child would not be alone in a toothless grin that lasted a LONG time. lol.

good luck!

My DD had a discoloration on her bottom two front teeth and I was told by the dentist it was from her being left in bed with a bottle. This was the only two teeth that had popped the skin and all the rest of them are fine and white so I suspect he was right!

Proud coordinator of Project Santa!! Ask me how you can help!!
