I want to know too because I'm a bayou girl from Louisiana!!

I did my own recognition of foreign adoption here in the LA. I know our state recognizes foreign adoptions. Email me at vbayouangel@aol.com if you need anything!

I live in Gonzales.

I have an attorney in Baton Rouge who is under retainer to do our readoption once we have our post placement visit down and have our return of original documents. We JUST YESTERDAY got our original docs back. So, I guess I should call her to set up an appointment. Although, I have NO IDEA what she has to do to get it finalized.

Angelbayou - if you could summarize the process that would be cool.

I'm not sure what the process is for readoption because I was told in Louisiana all I need to do is do a recognition and name change to get a LA BC. If this is all you need to do it's VERY easy and you can do it yourself and save a TON of money!! It needs to be filed at your clerk of court and then is assigned to a judge. He sets a hearing since you're not an attorney and when you appear he ask you to verify your identity and swear everything is true and coorect. Then we were congratulated and went home. The record was then sent to vital records and I was sent a prof of the LA BC to sign and return with the $27.50 and a couple months later I got her BC.
Let me know if you need to readopt of just do the recognition and I may be able to send you the docs and save you some money!!

I agree with Vanessa on the recognition of foreign adoption. I got a template from the social worker and filled in the blanks. No hearing required-the judge looked it over, said "it looks good." and was oh so impressed that I was able to do it without an attorney!! It really was very easy. We came home on IR-3 visa; you may need to readopt for IR-4.

Only thing is, I received a La. birth certificate to proof back in April, but haven't received a request to pay for a new one yet. Maybe it's because it had to go through Lafayette first? I would like to get his name changed on SS card, health ins., etc.

He's becoming a true cajun--right at home in his underwear and shoes.

Vanessa,
I'm more south central La. Basile, between Lafayette and Lake Charles about 11 miles north of I-10. I read about the get together for the SE La. group, but it''s a little too far right now. Too many things in process for a road trip.

We were thinking of going but we can't say for certain yet because I'll be leaving fro Guatemala the following week! Maybe we should all get together and do one BIG picnic somewhere this fall!! I would LOVE to see everyone!
