OT - Double Stroller at Disney?

I know there are a lot of Disney pros out there who can help me.

Am I nuts to consider taking a double stroller to Disney World? Is it going to be too hard to get through crowds and just generally a pain to deal with?

DS (age 5) is usually fine about walking, but we are going to be there for 6 days, and while we dont' plan to spend every minute of every day in the park, I am afraid that after a couple days he is going to start wearing down and possibly need the stroller.

DD (age 4.5) is tiny and I worry about her in crowds and also, she tires easily as she has to take two steps for every one the rest of us take just to keep up! So a stroller for her is essential. (I do have a single I can use for her and/or have them trade off.)

Any thoughts? (Aside from the fact that I am probably putting WAY too much thought into this!)

I am sure you might already know this, but they rent the "double-wides" at Disney already.
I thought people were not very stroller friendly at Disney anyways so when I was pushing a single or a double it was equally as difficult especially when it was crowded.

I would suggest two singles if you have help pushing the strollers.

I know that they do rent them, but it kills me to pay a daily rate for something I already have at home.

I hadn't thought anything of this until we went to the zoo yesterday and it was mobbed and the double was a pain in the rear.

We are driving so while our space is not unlimited, we can fit multiple strollers if we need to. Maybe I should just suck it up and spend $20 on another single umbrella stroller from BabiesRUs and not mess with the double. DH will be there as well as DS#1 who can be a designated stroller pusher as necessary.

Thanks!

Take your own double...we did until ours finally gave out last year. In fact we took DS's single to Busch Gardens last week...and DD hopped in a few times and DS wanted to be in at the same time. DD is 7 and DS is 5.

The ones at Disney are hard molded plastic...at least they were last time we went. The kids liked being in their own stroller and I loved having all the storage underneath plus a place to hang a mini-cooler and a backpack. Plus for DS who gets overwhelmed easily...having *his* safe place in the stroller was great.

Have FUN!!!

ETA~ We had a great Inglesina side by side stroller that was VERY easy to open and close and very lightweight. I actually took it myself a few times when I took the kids without DH. I never had any problems anywhere at Disney with it. But again it was a very light and easy side by side. (Twin Swift I think?!)

I was just at Disney last month. Here's what I noticed. If you're at a Disney hotel and get transportation to the park, then you may just want to rent a stroller. I paid 15 for a single and I believe a double was $25ish. We stayed at a non-Disney hotel and I drove to the park. The first park I went to was Animal Kingdom. I had a single stroller with me but it was a big one. PAIN IN THE TOOSH to get it onto the tram to get to the gate of the park. The next day we went to Disney WOrld. This time I left the stroller in the car. I forgot that you have to take some kind of boat or monorail to get to the actual park. SO, we walked a lot just from the parking lot, to the ferry lift, to the gates of Disney. Then I rented the stroller which peeved me because I felt like I was paying out unnecessarily. My daughter was much more comfortable in her own stroller than in the Disney one. They are "playground" plastic and they get VERY hot when they sit in the sun. If you do rent one, bring a towel.

Bottom line: bring your own stroller if you can. It's a big park and it's hot so you'll need something for the kids to sit in. I don't think I would wrestle a double stroller unless I had a couple people with me to help.

HAVE FUN!!

Funny reading everyone's opinions on what works for them. I, too, used to cringe at paying for the rented strollers until I was forced to rent one because ours broke. Now, I will only rent. The best part is that you don't have to mess with trying to get a stroller on the tram and inside the gate. Also, the rentals are SO easy to push and manuver. I don't know why they can't make all strollers that way. The are huge inside and my two were able to lay down in them with a towel under them and take a nap. There is a canopy over-head to put things on. It truly makes life easier, I think, and is totally worth the extra money....especially when you have more than one little one!! Ali

We were just at Disney in May. I rented a stroller because I didn't want to take one on the plane. I wish I had taken my own. I didn't realize that you can only use the rented strollers are the parks and can't take them back with you to the hotel. We stayed at the Carribean Beach Resort and went to a few others for dinners. If you are there at a really popular time you will also need to get to the parks first thing in the morning to get a stroller. If you get there an hour or two after opening they may be out and you will have to wait until someone brings one back.

I took my two fosters to Disney in April. We brought our single stroller. DFS who was 4.5 used the stroller more than the baby, I wore her most of the time. So I do suggest you have a stroller for both.

One thing that bothered me was that they move the strollers. I would leave my stroller in the stroller parking and come back when I was done on the ride and it was never in the same spot. It was very hard to find my stroller in the crowd, so I can imagine it must be near impossible to find a rental when half the people have the rentals. It wasn't that hard to take the stroller, we folded it on the tram and just pushed it on the monorail.

Everyone makes great points! Decisions, decisions!!

I gave away our Peg Perago Aria Twin a year or so ago because we really never used it any more. So I have a friend's Jeep double. No storage underneath but folds up pretty small and is light and easy to handle.

And then we have a jogger (way too much to bother with) and a $20 BabiesRUs umbrella stroller.

I guess we take the double and the umbrella and if those turn out to not be what we need, we rent or take a drive to the local BabiesRUs!

Thanks everyone!

Just a thought... but my friend has two little ones and she got these nifty connector things that attach together her two umbrella strollers. I'm not sure how they work but it gives you the option of putting them together for one pusher or leaving them as single strollers. Good luck and have fun!!

We have rented the doubles at Disney- I have brought singles and last time we brought our double. Ours is a front/ back stroller so it was easier then the side by side. It turned out to be a dream- great for warn out kids sleeping, and even better to carry our cooler, sweat shirts (it was Feb) and rain jackets. It was a pain on the tram and we did get fed up with rude people, but over all we really thought it made the trip much more pleasant for our almost 3 & 1 1/2 year old.
Have fun and say Hi to Mickey for me!

We did Disney World in May and my suggestion is to get two single umbrella strollers.
If your kids are like our kids - you may need to split up at times - like if one has to go potty and the other doesn't. It would be easier to split up with two separate strollers.
I refused to pay the outrageous prices at WDW plus I wanted to have the stroller to use once we got off of the tram on our way back to our hotel room. We ended up only taking one stroller and Jacob (age 6) was in it most of the time while Daddy carried Celeste. There were several times (especially at night) that I wished we have brought two strollers.

For Disney Tips, go to Deb's Unofficial Walt Disney World Vacation Information Guide - WDW Planning Guide - Walt Disney World they have a TON of great suggestions!
Have fun!!!!

Or because they are poking at each other and driving each other crazy!

Ohanagirl - Thanks for the reminder about the clips! I had forgotten they made those.

robinsnest005 - I will defiently say 'hi' to Mickey for you!

Thank you all so much!
