son very clingy all of a sudden

We have been home with our son since November. He is now 16 months old. He started walking in May and ever since has been on the move. When I pick him up he squirms and wants me to put him down.....wants to play all the time. He loves me to hug him and give him kisses. Whenever someone else comes around, he is so clingy to me. He doesn't want anyone else to hold him even people who are very familiar to him. Is this a phase??? I go back to teaching in August and I am concerned about him.

He is probably going through seperation anxiety. Yes it is a phase but not sure how long it can last. Probably a few weeks to a few months

Cristian is now 15 months and has begun to do the same thing. We spent 4 days with my parents and when he saw them 2 days later, he clung on to me as if he didn't know them. From everything I have read, this is the time for this next phase.

Ivan is 14 months and has started being very clingy. He will go to others but when we're at home together, he wants me with him most of the time.

It's a totally normal phase, especially at his age. It will pass and then may reappear again from time to time over the next couple of years.

Almost 5 years after my daughter's adoption (in my arms at 7 months old) she continues to go through separation anxiety. Around 16-24 months was the worst and it faded for a few months but has always reappeared. When she was 4 she was extremely independent. But for the past 6 months she's all about being with mommy and only mommy. I have my own beliefs and one being the fact that she was in an orphanage for the first 7 months of her life with little interaction with people. It's a consistent challenge but with lots of reassurance and love we always get through it.

Hang in there. He feels really secure with you and that says a lot.

Ahhh, clinginess, something I have LOT'S of experience with. Although Eva is clingy almost all of the time it def. is worse when I pick her up from daycare, sometimes when I drop her off and on and off throughout the time we are home. This started in January and people have told me it is just delayed seperation anxiety but it is now July and STILL happening. Thanks to my forum friends I have recently started doing some more attachement parenting techniques. It is too soon to tell if it is working yet but it seems like it might be.
I would think if you son is only doing it around other people it might just be seperation anxiety.
