OT: What TV show do you miss the most?

My friend and I were discussing last night how TV has definitely taken a turn for the worse. We are inundated with amoralistic programing that scratches away at the moral fiber of society. No, I'm not a prude. I do, however, have a problem with programming that glorifies the Hugh Hefner House or makes it look OK to ALWAYS look out for yourself first; no matter who you step on along the way.

There are some great programs outs there right now too. Although sitcoms are not as popular as they used to be I still find some of them to be hilarious. I also enjoy some of the drama programming out right now.

What's a program/show that you miss?

Mine: The Carol Burnett Show! LOVED HER!

Get Smart (the origional show - not the movie coming out. That looks aweful.)

Green Acres

Adams Family (the origional show - not the movie)

I used to watch these with my grandfather as a kid. I am sure there are more! I'll have to think about it. Good thread!

Oh wow - Get Smart - I loved watching those reruns and would watch them again if Nickelodeon would only start showing them. Family.

When I was a kid there were a couple of American programs we would all watch together - The Waltons ... Little House on the Prairie. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Growing up in the UK my favorites were the original Dr. Who ... Thunderbirds and yes, we could see the strings on the puppets but we didn't care. Blue Peter - a children's show that was very low-key but explored the world and other nationalities.

Heart

I have many I miss but to name a few:

That Girl
Mary Tyler Moore
I Dream of Jeannie
Love American Style
Red Skelton
Leave It To Beaver
Little House
The Waltons
The Brady Bunch
The Partridge Family

The great thing about cable is being able to still see some of these shows but it jus isn't the same as when they were originally on. The quality of TV has definately changed. Hmm guess I named more than a few....LOL
great thread!!!

I also loved to watch:

Mary Tyler Moore (my all-time favorite)
Bob Newhart
thirtysomething
Eight is Enough
Trapper John, M.D.
The Flintstones
Ozzie and Harriet (Ricky - you still make me swoon )

Ok, so now I feel like a teenager here, whining about my shows I miss, but I really liked Everwood and Gilmore Girls, both on WB (before CW came along). They were both entertaining but spent a lot of time showing how families aren't perfect but work through things and make that relationship a priority. Plus there was a lot of eye candy but very little R-rated stuff compared to other shows.

I always liked MASH, too. And Mad About You.

I think there's been a dual trend in TV. On the one hand, a lot of shows are actually smarter then they were 20 years ago. I mean, we've gone from "Charlie's Angels" and "the Love Boat" to "Six Feet Under" and "The Wire" and that's definitely a step in a positive direction in my book. On the other hand, I personally believe that most reality TV is a cancer on the planet. . .

Some shows I miss, from both long ago and more recently:

M.A.S.H. (my FAVORITE show growing up)
All in the Family
Several incarnations of Star Trek
Murphy Brown
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (My FAVORITE show as an adult)
The West Wing

Since i grew up in Holland and did not have tv when growing up. Believe it or not TV was not common in the 70ties in the Netherlands. There were only 2 channels.
But tehy did show some american shows and i remeber liking -Lou Grant, (made me want to become a journalist)
Hill Street Blues, St Elsewhere.

Some shows i do miss are more recent
-West Wing loved every minute of that show
-Gilmore girls
-M.A.S.H
Also i tend to like the shows the networks need to cancel after 1/2 a season, because of ratings. I'm the only one watching.

I Hate with a passion any reality show, whether it is home improvement or amazing race or any other genre in reality. I don't get it to put everything out there. For 15 minutes of fame?

I come here and don't feel so old anymore!! Most of us seem to be of the same generation. MTM and Get Smart were some of my favorites. About a year ago I got my dad the Get Smart boxed set which has the entire series! The are very cool interviews with Barbara Feldon who played 99.

My parents raised us in a "TV free" household, so I have never watched the majority of these shows!!

I have a HUGE pop culture gap.

Ha - we didn't have a tv in our house for four years and we didn't miss it ... when we finally got one in the UK it had four channels - then our viewing was v limited. But my favorite shows are the ones that I watched as a little kid or in college - if not for Nickelodeon I wouldn't know half these shows either.
