THANK GOD it was not Giuseppa, but my dear good friend who also adopted her son. My wonderful friend Rose adopted a gorgeous little Mexican boy named Christian. Christian was born 1 day before Giuseppa and we both used the same home study company that ripped us off. Any way...my friend Rose had her Aunt and Uncle visiting them for 2 weeks (they have no children). Her Uncle is an artist. While visiting he was teaching her children the art of painting. He went out and bought paint thinner and set the jar outside. My friend Rose had no idea that there was this jar outside. Her kitchen has french doors and she was able to see her children play outside. In a split second she saw her son drinking something out of this jar...not knowing what it was she ran outside to investigate. By the time she got to Christian he was grunting for air. He drank the paint thinner that his great uncle left outside. In a panic they could not find the phone to call 911. Finally what felt like eternanity they find the phone and call 911 and were immediatly transfered to poison control. The ambulance was there within minutes. Christian at this time was not breathing or responsive. During the ride to the hospital Christian started to breath and vomit. PRAISE THE GOOD LORD. They ran tons of test on him to make sure there was no damage. By 3am he was so hyper and energetic that they decided to discharge him. For the next few weeks they want her to continue to take him to their doctors' for check up. As of right now there still is no damage. She had a sitdown with her Uncle about the dangers of leaving ANYTHING dangerously out that children can get their hands on. I think this is a lesson to all of us to beware what we leave out in the reach of children. I know all of our chemicals are out of reach of Giuseppa's hands whether they are dangerous or not.
Rose

My first reaction is OH NO! Even though the relatives don't have children, they really should use common sense when it comes to the kids. Next time when things calm down, you may want to have a discussion about how to be safe around little ones. I dont think I would want these relatives to babysit your little one by the way! I paint in oils, and there's no doubt that the stuff I use(turpentine eg) is dangerous for kids. When I am home, I lock the stuff up in a back bedroom. I dont paint at home with my dd, it's just too risky. I'm glad your little one is better, but sorry for the scare.

My heart just dropped as soon as you said paint thinner....I knew what it was going to be. BUT, am so glad it had a happier ending than I expected. Good for her for setting the uncle down.
Can't be too careful!

Oh my - this is a parent's worst nightmare indeed. Glad to hear the boy is okay. There are very few people I trust to look after DS, things can happen in a nanosecond even if you are watching them.
