Updated Homestudy and I171H???

Hi,

It has been 1 year since my homestudy and October will be a year for my I171H. When do I have to renew all of this stuff? I am nowhere near bringing baby home so I want to make sure I know when Ihave to do these 2 things. Also do they need to be notarized, certified and sealed from the consolate? Thanks.

Your fingerprints expire 15 months after the date they were done. Your I171H expires 18 months after the date it was issued. Your homestuday is good for a year.

So, check the date of your fingerprints first. You can get refingerprinted using your still-current I171H. Then you will need a homestudy update to get a one-time extension on your I171H. Don't let your I171H expire; make sure you apply for the extension well before the expiration date. Hopefully, your child will be home before then

Lesley, these things are coming up for us too. Our homestudy expires this month so we re-did that per our agency. They said we should have an up to date homestudy to take with us to our embassy appt. They said they have never had a family be asked for their homestudy, but it is better to be safe. Our fingerprints expire in November, but our agency says we should make our appt 3 months before they expire as CIS has been really slow here in Minneapolis. I think we will be ok on our I-171H as it does not expire until March, but I would check on that as well. Good luck!
