3rd Update to Homestudy! Long

You know you've been in process with adoption too long when you have to update your homestudy a THIRD time and you are still waiting for your child! We met with our social worker again tonite to make the necessary changes to our homestudy to remain active. There really weren't any changes, it was just a formality. I can't believe we went to our first informational adoption meeting in March of 2005. We were waiting in the domestic program over a year and a half when we decided we were going to accept Katelyn's referral last July. We have waited so long to bring her home and these meetings with our social worker only make me sad. Poor Jennifer, she never knows what to say to us either. At least she does not even pretend to know what we are going through. She did suggest a class we should take that our agency offers. The class is geared towards people adopting a child over age 1. Kevin and I just laughed because that was not our original plan. Now we will be bringing home a toddler and not an infant. The class is offered the end of the month so we will probably attend. The class deals with attachment, which is something neither Kevin nor I know much about. We didn't think it would be an issue with a baby, but it sure may be with a toddler. So, we are still approved for a child 0-2 years old. I told Jennifer, Kate sure better be home before she is 2 years old!

lol...we're in the same boat! --well, if she's not out of PGN by the end of July we'll be updating again.

we're looking at what school to put her in, what grade etc. This is TOTALLY not what we thought we'd be doing. I remember specifically telling the social worker that we wanted to bring home a child that was "at the oldest 4 so that we'd have a couple years before we have to deal with school issues".

so much for THAT plan; I just had a meeting at the school to talk about whether she should go into kindergarten or first grade.

Thank god he had enough sense to write our homestudy for "one child up to 8 years old". When I think about that conversation (bringing home a 4 year old) I just laugh.

I'm sadly beginning to wonder if I'll be bringing her home in time for her prom.

I am very sorry to hear you are sad. I can say that it was never my intention to bring home a child over 1... but it happened anyway. She will bring you so much happiness and love.. and the class sounds like a great idea! Hope you get your OUT soon!

Those reminders of just how long it has been are truely torture.

God knows what he is doing though...Kate is your child no matter how old she is when she comes home!! He gave her to you because he knew that you could and would handle the wait!!

Don't worry...it won't be long now!!
