Question Anybody use gdiapers???

Hey everyone, Bella is 22 months now and I just stumbled across these gdiapers. They sound great...a cross between cloth and disposables. Any way I am very interested since they only take 90 days to decompose as opposed to the 500 years of disposables...YIKES. I know she will probally only be in diapers another year at most, but figure any amount less in the landfill is better. SO anyway , does anyone use these?? Pros, cons, is it worthi it for me to switch to them for a year?? Any and all feedback would be great!! Thanks so much!!

Amy

We tried them but never got too far. I really liked the idea that they were flushable, but they always clogged our toilet. Their literature says that you are not doing it right if it clogs, but DH got tierd of plunging the toilet, so we gave up.

It is a little more cumbersome to change than disposable, but not that much. There is a liner thing that needs to be cleaned...it can get dirty with messy diapers. I also read that for those of us who need overnight diapers, you will probably need to keep disposables for overnight.

Try it! I think it is a wonderful idea. I wish we could have made them work for us. However, I think it would be easier to get used to them on a smaller baby with smaller messes than on an older baby.

Go G!!!!!!

we use them and they are great!!
took some figuring re: flushing and we have one toilet that works better than the other, which is fine.

we just started a compost bin outside our house and we'll be using that for wet only so we'll only have to flush the poopy ones.
but even if your toilet wont let you flush them it is still way better than plastic because they take up less space than a regular diaper.

the only pain is the blow out as you have to wash the outside like a cloth diaper. but really no big deal.

and they are super cute.
i'll snap a shot of j tomorrow night when i get home.
here are a few old photos...

I love G-diapers. Though if you take your child to daycare, make sure they'll accept them (ours only accepts disposables). We've had no problem with flushing, though you can always just throw them out- it takes a little longer to decompose but only an extra 30 days or so. For night time, we put the regular pad in and then fold another pad in thirds and put it in the diaper. Haven't had any problems w/ leaking (DS and DD are 16 months).

I'm bummed I didn't hear about these until now. Only thing is we do use overnight diapers and even those are soaked sometimes. Anyone have any night time suggestions? Anyone make there own liners? Or know where I can fine homemade ones...Etsy?? Any place to buy the liners and such besides the gdiapers site? Thanks so much for all the info! Amy

Amy you're "bummed", eh? He He. Get it, bummed, bum, diaper? (sorry- couldn't help myself)

In the past we were putting J down in a regular diaper overnight and naps but we've just redoubled our efforts to make as many green changes in our lives as possible- starting to compost, breaking down ALL packaging to smallest pieces possible, etc etc.

So...now we fold up an extra G liner in the front (for girls would be in the middle) when we put him down for naps and bedtime . The other technique we've engaged is that DH goes in and changes Julian's diaper about an hour or two after the baby falls asleep and then when he wakes we either change right away or put him on the potty. It turns out 90% of the peeing happens right after falling asleep and right after waking up.

Let me know if you have any more questions! The biggest thing I would say is don't give up, it takes some time to figure out how they'll work best for you.

Just GO GREEN!

I haven't used them yet, but there is a gDiapers yahoo group where you can learn all about them.
