Have you ever heard of any child being granted a visa to visit while in process?
Just curious.
TIA! Chris

Guatemala Adoption Information

I have only seen children granted temp. visa's to come to the U.S. for extreme medical conditions for treatment. One of the kids in the children home we adopted from was allowed to come to the U.S. for open heart surgery (under the guardianship of the home's owner). The child was taken back to Guatemala to finish the adoption once he was medically cleared to travel.
I have not seen this happen in any other circumstance.

Aside from medical cases, the only case I've seen is a very old one (almost 16 years ago) where the child was granted a two-year visa. However, there are now questions about the legality of the adoption in Guatemala and she still doesn't have citizenship, it's a protracted legal mess, and the family is very uncertain about their daughter's future.
I doubt that it's possible now aside from medical conditions and even if it was possible, it's highly, highly risky. If you brought a child home temporarily, what would you do if the adoption wasn't approved in Guatemala? if at the end the US denied the permanent visa?

Since the child is not legally yours until the process is finished (pgn protocol is signed and bc is registered), then I dont see how they would grant a visa for a minor child to go to another country to visit.
I have seen medical visa's...and one forum member is fostering a little boy on a medical visa. I would also imagine with the stigma on immigration from Latin America, the US would be highly unlikely to issue a visa for a child to be placed in the custody of pre-adoptive parents. The chance of that child "disappearing" into the system would be too great. jmho

Plus, to get the visa, the child would need a Guatemalan passport which would be difficult/impossible to get.
