1. A room for all the kids' toys. Which are now in the living and dining room because we have no such extra room.

2. The laundry room on the main floor. Or, even better, the laundry room upstairs where all of the laundry comes from and goes back to.

I like things to be organized.

My dream house would have a lot of functional cabinets. Not just in the kitchen, but in the bathroom and laundry area's as well.

I'd have a laundry room that is where I do my laundry - not a laundry room which is a closet where my washer and dryer live! It'd have cabinets for storage, counter tops for folding and bars for hanging. It'd actually be a functional ROOM.

I'd have every bedroom in the house large enough to accommodate at least a queen sized bed, full sized dresser and a desk, with room to walk around (Don’t get me started!...kids grow).

I’d spend a lot of time in a mock up of my ‘kitchen’ to ensure that I am making the right choices on appliance placement and whatnot. Right now, my house has a dishwasher in a place that’s just not the best, convenience wise.

I would ensure that I had ‘outlets’ for everything on every wall. I hate nothing more than being locked into a certain location for the TV or the lamps etc. (I did this in the house I built ten years ago and never regretted it!).

Something else I did in the house I built was installed plugs under the overhangs of my roof – for Christmas Lights. There was a switch in the coat closet, just inside the door. Very handy.

I also want an ‘action exposed’ window over my kitchen sink. Nothing worse than sitting there doing dishes and looking at the brick on your neighbors house. Give me backyard/front yard exposure!

There are a lot of things I learned when building my house ten years ago that I would use when doing it again.

(I’d also pick out the carpet I liked then go 3-4 shades darker. I’ve replaced carpet twice and both times, ugh – to light – I could kicked myself!)

1. A mud room/laundry room off the kitchen
2. A spa-like bathroom with a whirlpool tub and multi-jet shower
3. A lap pool and hot tub
4. More counter top space in the kitchen

I recently toured the Street of Dreams homes in Orlando.. WOW! One home had 3 laundry rooms and I lost count of bathrooms..The children's rooms were so awesome.. We took lots of pictures but priced at 7-9 million dollars, they were definitely just DREAMS. There were some cool things that I would love to have and could put into our home eventually ~

A theatre room
A pet room under a staircase
A huge playroom with a stage ~ SOO adorable
A scrapbooking/wrapping room -actually a huge closet

It's fun to go through those homes, and sometimes there really are ideas that aren't completely out of the budget.. :-)

We had a beautiful master bath in the house we just moved out of (we are renting it out right now due to the market). I can tell you that you still wind up sharing your bathroom with all the kids (even though they each have their very own bathroom!) and you never ever ever have time to use the jacuzzi tub

My dream house is all on one level, with a separate, big room for all the kids toys. We had a huge bonus room in our other house -- set up as a great play area. But, the bonus room was on the second floor, and the kids always want to be on the first floor with me while I'm working in the kitchen or whatever. We are in a pretty small rental right now, so I gave up my big kitchen, jacuzzi tub, big yard, big bedrooms, and separate play area when we moved. And the separate play area is the one thing I really am finding it hard to live without (tripping over toys as I type this!)

I'll take any/all of your suggestions as long as the dream house comes with a housekeeper.

I would love to live in a modern log cabin with the woods right out the door.

A huge screened-in porch that opens up to an outdoor entertainment center - that includes a huge pool with a palm tree or two!

This is a little on the practical side for a "dream home", but here goes: central vacuum system. I have one in my nice, but not dream, home and I LOVE it! It's so nice to just pull out the hose and vac all the wood which is the entire main floor. In 10 minutes the cat litter, food under the table and bird feathers are gone and the hose is stowed back under the stairs.

loveajax - we have a huge corner jacuzzi tub and separate shower and we never use the jacuzzi! it's big enough for our whole family. we have lived here for 3 years and i have literally never used it. but i'm not a "bath" person. you're welcome to it.

i would love a temperature controlled wine cellar, an indoor greenhouse and a pool (working on DH about the pool!)

after living in this house, i will never again live in a house without a hearth room. we love it!

A HUGE kitchen with granite and top of the line appliances.

6 bedrooms.... One for each of us and a guest suite.

A HUGE laundry room with space for 2 washers and 2 dryers and a place for each person's things.... would make laundry go twice as fast and easier to put up.
