wow- crazy how the prices flucuate so much in different areas. in the chicagoland area, we pay around $3-$3.50 for a gallon. sometimes a little more; sometimes a little less, but never saw it much over $4.

I hear ya! We buy Horizon Farms milk b/c of concerns with growth hormones and factory farming so we pay ALOT more- as in $3.75 per half gallon! When we first started getting it, it was $2.25- much more manageable as we go through at least a gallon a week. My goodness, we may as well buy our own cow...

I was thinking the same thing. For example. last summer, I bought large eggs on sale in TN for 77 cents per dozen. They were a little over a dollar when they were not on sale.

We moved to WA this past Dec, and I was FLOORED that eggs ON SALE were 2.99 per dozen (large, not XL) in the local grocery store!

We get them from the milkman now, extra large for $2.38 a dozen, unless the market has a special that week, then I cancel the milkman's eggs for the week.

3.50ish here. A good sale is 2.50.

Did you know you can buy milk on sale and freeze it?

Open the jug and take out about a cup. Then compress the jug so the milk is just about to the top again. Replace the cap while the jug is still compressed (this allows for expansion once the milk eventually thaws). Then stick it in the deep freeze!

Thaw in the fridge. Takes a long time to thaw, but it does. Tastes fine.

We only buy milk on sale now. Every penny counts in this house.

You know I tried that once. The milk actually went sour in the freezer -- it was fine when I put it in there. Isn't that weird?

Huh. That is weird. We've been drinking mostly frozen milk for about 6 mo. Never had it go bad. Try it again!

Dee, did you put the milk in a self-defrosting freezer? If so, that might be why it went sour-- as it is half thawing once or twice daily. If you use an old style freezer that is cold enough you should be able to store the milk in there no problem.

I don't know what milk is at the store here, but I pay $7.50/gallon for whole raw milk from a certified farm in the area and that comes delivered.

First off, I work at Wal-Mart, they are suppose to match all sale prices in the ads you bring in, except buy one get one free and in store coupons. If I were you I would go and talk to their manager and if they still say no, ask for the district managers number or call 1-800-Wal-Mart. Each store is different, but the main rules are the same.

Milk here is $3.00 for a gallon of whole milk. We are not big eggs eaters, so I have not brought any in awhile. The last time I needed some, I could not get any cause the store was completely out for a few days. (Memorial day weekend of all things too.) Also I am at Customer Service now, so I have not been a cashier for awhile to know what things are ringing up as.

A gallon of milk at my Walmart was $4.75 last week. It's absolutely disgusting....

I really wonder if its the market? Here, they don't match ad's for fresh produce (fruits, veggies, etc) at all, period.

I was kinda shocked, because they always matched when I lived in Texas...

Our CVS has been having 2% in their ad for 2.79 a gallon. We typically buy oraganic and it was 3.83 for 1/2 gallon when I bought it this morning.

Again, I am feeling like a huge loser because I have no idea what we pay for milk! I figure we need it, so I buy it...and don't look at the price.

I think it is because I am always in a huge hurry with the two guys!
