OT/anyone else hosting a fresh air child?

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is hosting a fresh air child? I am for the first time this year. We are getting a 10 year old boy, he will be here for two weeks. My kids are excited about it and cant wait until he comes. Tammy

I've never heard of that program. Is it a foster program?

Its when someone host a child from the intercity of NY. They come to vist host families for 1-2 weeks in the summer to get them out of the city. It`s a mini vacation for these children who might not get any other vacation. Tammy

Do other area's have a simular program. We don't live in the North East.

They must - my SIL lives outside of Philadelphia and she is hosting a girl. It's a great program!

This is so weird. I just saw an advertismnet for this in Vogue and it looked interetesting. We are in Arizona though and I don't think there is anything like that here.

Thanks for the heads up on this! I think this looks so interesting! We can't do it this year but it's definitely something to bookmark and look up with our kids are in that age range. I think it'd be more fun if we had either no kids or kids near the same age...somehow it seems like it wouldn't be as much fun for a kid to be stuck in our house right now with a 3 year old and me. But in 3-4 years this sounds like a great program!

What kind of stuff are you planning? I could just imagine the day trips to the local beaches and berry picking and hiking and such!

Yes we are going to the beach, I already have tickets for six flags, going to the Zoo, and just letting him play in the back yard, and in the pool. He is coming July 7-21. Tammy

My parents always did a similar program "Project Children" where they brought kids from Northern Ireland over to the US for a month in the summer. It was to get them out of the violence and show them how others can get along with people from different religions. We still keep in touch with many of the kids (of course they are all teen agers or adults now). They still have this program even though there have been many positive changes in N. I.

Any of the programs that give kids a glimpse of a different way of life are great imho.

My parents hosted a 10 year old girl when I was five. I can still remember how much fun we had! I had no idea the program was still around!
