Giuseppa has been sick for a day now..and when I changed her a couple hours ago she was fine..but I just changed her and she is fiery red and bleeding. Unfortunately for her she had a runny diaper and I had to clean around the crevices. She went into hysterically crying. Of course I used rash cream right away..but is this normal??? She has a runny nose and I think her 2 year molars are coming out. Also no fever. What should I do.....

Flanders Butt Paste does wonders.
It's brown & looks yucky but is very cooling to baby's bottom. We learned the hard way that DD was allergic to the antibiotics omnicef & augmentin, she did exactly like you said and it was the only thing that cleared her up and she didn't scream bloody murder when we applied it.

My youngest is prone to horrible diaper rash, bleeding and raw. I need to use cream on her ALL the time, just to prevent it, and it still flares up from time to time. And it can flare up in just a few hours. Desitin is the best - the original formula - it really sticks to the skin and prevents wetness from getting in.

Keep the area dry -- even if it means keeping her diaperless for a few hours (yes, it can be quite messy). If you have to put a diaper on, blot the area dry as gently as your can, then coat her with the cream.

I am back..what a quick trip that was....they got her in right away...the doctor said it is a diaper rash and to load her up with vaselne and let her go without a diaper every now and than to let it air out. Poor thing. When I had to take off her diaper she freaked and started to scream. I felt so bad for her. So I hope this will clear up within a few days.

I would go with the Butt Paste. IMO, it is the best and you can use a diaper on her and just change her after every pee.

Don't use any babywipes only use water to wet a kleenex. Also you can rinse her off in the sink or bathtub and try not to wipe at all if you can.

And a third vote for Butt Paste. My bio son got diaper rashes like that when he was teething and that was the only thing that helped clear it up.

If she is still having diarrhea, mix some Maalox with diaper cream and put it on. The antacid neutralizes the acid in the poo and makes them feel soooooooo much better. It does not mix well with diaper cream, as the job of diaper cream is to repel liquid. But if you put it in a cup together, mix it up, and then smear it on with the back of a plastic spoon, it should go on.
We have a constipated kid, and also a diarrhea kid. So we know all the tricks!

Yes yes yes! This works wonders. Not too much Maalox or it will get too runny. And I know there are a lot of votes for the Butt paste, but I found it to be not "sticky" enough -- I still like Desitin the best. I would experiment and try both, but definitely mix in the Maalox.

Mia had rotavirus and her rash was the worst thing I have ever seen, just horrible. I stopped using wipes, and is she poos (even if it is runny) I would use a warm wash cloth to clean off what you can, stand her up in the tub rinse her, and then set her in the tub, then when she gets out another warm wash cloth (or you can rinse wipes out REALLY good) and be sure there isn't ANYthing left in any cracks. I did this literally every 20 minutes for 8 days, just when I was done with it she would go again, it was BAD! Also, A&D ointment (the vaseline) type cleared Mia up really quick and protected her skin. It can be really hard to deal with.

We have had two little diaper rashed bottoms...usually at the same time. We SWEAR by Desitin, (and we tried them all) letting their bottom air out and no wipes (especially not with fragrance!)

Usually with Desitin at night, it was almost gone the next morning.

Also, sometimes it looked like Luke had diaper rash in his folds, but it was really yeast. We used Lotrimin for that.

But the Dr. would have caught that...

Mikayla has this all the time. Over the counter doesn't work for her but there is one that they keep behind the counter that you can without a prescription that DOES work and you can ask your pharmacist about it. It has 22% zinc oxcide in it. Mikayla is in prescriptions because her are every week or so. Bloody, *****, welty rashes. It's BAD. In fact, we were just at the DR today and we had to get referred to a dermotologist in Cleveland...so I know how it is. Mikayla suffers from this all the time and it is a horrible thing to have.
