OT: Has anyone taken a Disney cruise?

We (okay, I) am looking at Disney cruises for this fall. Let me start by saying we are not "Disney fans," but we think it would be fun for our sons!!

If it was just me and my husband, we would be going on Silversea. Alas, times have changed with 2 little ones. We don't really care where the cruise goes, as we have seen the Caribbean many times. (I don't know why, but I have it in my head that Disney only cruises the Caribbean?)

So for those of you that have cruised with Disney:

1. Was it neat? Worth it?

2. Was it "zooey"? (hate big cruiseliners too)

3. Was the food good? (we are particular)

4. How were the accommodations? Would a
standard guestroom be big enough for me, my husband, our 2 year old and our then almost 2 year old?

5. Anything else I forgot?

Many thanks!!

We've taken 2...

...Disney Cruises. A 4 day and a 7 day (4/07 & 11/07). We live in Orlando so it is short drive to Port Canaveral and you just hop on the boat. Where do you live? I know it can be a long day when you have to first take a plane ride then the 45 min bus ride to the port from the airport. If you are not within driving distance to the port I would suggest looking into Disney's "land and sea" packages where you stay at a resort for a few days and then cruise.

Here's our experience with our son born 3/26/06.

Meals: He sat pretty well for each meal and they will prepare meals to suit the child. Very kid friendly. Dinners are themed and last about 1 1/2 hours. If your kids can't handle that, then you may opt for the buffet or other fast food dining options.

Sleeping: THey have pack n plays and the couches turn into single beds. A curtain is the only barrier between you and the kids and the TV is in the area with the kids. Kinda stinks and we ended up going to bed early every night.

Entertainment: We had early dining so the shows for our seating didn't start until 8:30. Ben would always fall asleep during the show.

Babysitting: Set up babysitting after booking online or go to the day care right as you board to reserve your spot. Unfortunately for us Ben would not stay there so he was with us the whole time.

Ports: ON the 4 day cruise we stopped in Nassau (nothing for the kids that age) and Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is fun and the kids will love the beach.
ON the 7 day cruise we stopped in St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Castaway Cay. Much better ports. We took a St. John Island tour but really our son was too young to enjoy.

NOTE: Wash hands often! My husband and son got rotavirus on the last day of our 7 day trip. I didn't get it because I am militant about hand washing.

If there is anything else you want to know, just let me know. - Carolyn
