I am looking for some good books to read on attachment and toddler adoption. Can anyone recommend any good reading. I need something to help me pass the time.

I have also read Raising Adopted Kids and Parenting the Hurt Child which were both good in different ways. There is also a book on Post Adoption depression that is very good.

Dan Hughes is a great resource for attachment. I have heard him speak, and we do therapy that is sort of based off his work. Good luck if you need it.

I have read the books Raising Adopted children and I just started The Weaver's Craft- which is more geared to Toddler Adoption.

Absolutely read Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft!!!

This is a great book, I think, no matter your child's age. Our son wasn't yet a toddler but I found it very useful and I took a lot of ideas from it that I used proactively. I think it really helped our son's transition be so smooth.

If you're bringing home a child who is older than a toddler it's also a great resource. You can adapt a lot of the ideas to your child's age. Also, many children will seem younger emotionally than their chronological age so it may still very much apply to an older child.

More ideas

Let's just say Barnes and Noble loves me these days!!! My favorite so far is Adoption Parenting Creating a toolbox, building connections by Jean MacLeod and Sheena Macrae, both the Deborah Gray books are great but a little more technical, Raising Adopted Children by Lois Melina was required reading by our agency. Becoming a Family by Lark Eshleman was good too.

Perhaps the greatest resource we have had is contact with another family from our agency that has adopted older children from the same hogar our girls are at. This other family have become dear friends who have lived this experience and are willing to share their experiences with us. Ask your agency if they have anyone who would be willing to talk to you and share experiences. It has been better than any book I could have read! Renee

The Connected Child...

I like The Connected Child by Dr. Karyn Purvis (and some others). Very easy reading with some good advice based on research.

Here is a good list...many have already been mentioned here but I like this list:
A4everFamily.org - Books for Parents

Another book I like is Beyond Consequences, Logic and Control Heather T. Forbes, LCSW it is a very interesting and different approach to parenting...do not be put off by the mention of 'severe behaviors' in the books full title.
