2 yr olds height
My pedi is worried about my 2 yr old's height. At her check up she measured in at 29 1/2 inches and 25 lbs. Her weight is good, but not her height. She mentioned going to she an endocrinologist, but I wanted to check in here and see what the average Guatemalan height was at 2 years in case it's a matter of Kassie not measuring well on a US growth chart but being fine by Guatemalan standards. She has many other medical problems (special needs), so it is possible that there might be a hormone issue too. TIA!

This doesnt sound too abnormal to me. I have a Guatemalan growth chart and it says average height for rural children at 24 months was 75 cm, which if I remember my conversions right, is 29.5 inches. Now granted this is for rural children who will not necessarily be fed optimally, so ideally your child would be a little taller than this, but of course it depends on how long she has been home. I will see if somehow I can post the growth chart for you.

let's see if this works
it is from a study looking at the growth of rural Guatemalan males. Not exactly what you are looking for, but may help put things in perspective.
edited to add" the reference on the chart is the normal USA growth curve.

My son was 21 inches and 23lbs at his 2 year check. Doctor said he is fine as long as he is on HIS own little growth curve. If he 'drops off HIS curve' then the doctor said he would be a bit worried.
Good Luck, Janie |
