I was babysitting a friend's little girl who is my son's age today and shamelessly easedropped on the conversation she and my son had today. Canaan was telling her that we were going to pick up his brother and sister. He proceded to launch into an explanation of our family structure.

It went like this: "We're going to go get my brother and sister at Mam's house. Liam and I grew in Mommy's belly but Evangeline grew in another mother's belly. The other mother couldn't get food like she needed so she decided that we had better take care of Evangeline. So Mommy and Daddy went and got her from Guatemala and now we take care of her. Now she's a part of our family and is going to stay with us forever."

Isn't great when little kids "get" what sometimes adults still do not?!!

By the way after this conversation, he also proposed and they are now planning on getting married!! They also would like to have children someday. LOL What can I say my boy works fast!!! LOL At one point in time I almost had to stop the car because I was laughing so hard, I couldn't see!

It's true...sometimes the little ones get the concepts much better than we do. What's the old saying...keep it simple baby...that's what they do and we could learn from them!!

I hope the wedding goes well...and as the mother of the groom, remember you are just supposed to wear beige and be quiet!!

LOL!! That is truly a cute story!! It's so funny to hear the things children say!!
I made the mistake to call my daughter my little Guatling one day while we were playing on the floor! Well fast forward over a year..we were driving and my son and his cousin were chatting in the back saying do you know this and that etc. Well my son asks her do you know what they call babies in Guatemala? She says nope! Hes says Guatlings!!! I just laughed and then when I could finally breathe and talk serious I told him that was just something I called her when she was little! That name is not used anymore!!

It amazes me what Canaan comes up with on a daily basis. Sometimes he can make me laugh and cry in a five minute time frame.

My Sister in law sent this to me while I was on my visit trip to Guatemala last week. Kylee is her niece and Trevor is my Son, both are 8 years old. We are waiting not so patiently for Dylan, now 19 months old.


I was just listening to Kylee tell Trevor she was going to have a new baby brother or sister. Trevor asked, "How old will it be when you get it?" Kylee said "I don't understand what you mean." Trevor said, "I was just wondering if it would be a good play date for Dylan".

We arrived home with our daughter from Guatemala on March 23, 06 and my cousin had her bio son on May 19, 06. So my other cousin's little girl (four at the time) had been asking questions about how babies "get here". One day she told us she was going to be our teacher and started "reading" from a book. This is how she explained "how babies get here".

"Some babies are born in Guatemala and their mommy and daddy go to a hotel and get them. Then they get on a plane and fly back to their house." (As she is explaining this to us she is pointing to a globe.) She continues "Then other babies, like Hayden, are born in hospitals".

It was priceless.
