Overnight trip to Lake Atitlan??

Hi,
We are going down to Guatemala to visit our daughters' birthmother in 2 weeks. We are considering going to Lake Atitlan. Our girls are 1 and 2 so only doing a day trip would be rough on everyone. Has anyone used a driver/tour agency they liked and were reasonable? Also, where did you stay?

Thanks in advance!

PS - I keep praying for all of you in process! You WILL get your babies home!

I can't advise you on the tourguide as we went with our Foster Family, but we stayed at Hotel Rancho Grande and enjoyed our stay. I am not sure how well they are set up for babies (all the kids with us were older and none needed cribs, don't know if that's an issue for you) and the hotel does NOT overlook the lake. But, if you stay in one of the bungalows there is a very pretty, enclosed courtyard for your kiddos to play in. Older property, some things needed updating - but breakfast is included and it's AWESOME. Pancakes that are three inches thick, eggs any way you like them, etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside on the small porhces and chatting, especially after the kids all went to bed, we were still able to easily socialize.

I hope the roads are passable, as the Lake is truly awesome.

If you want upscale, I'd recommend Hotel Atitlan....the view was amazing and hotel grounds are gorgeous. Overnight is the way to go since the trip takes 3 plus hours (and that was on roads last October). We stopped halfway and had lunch at nice restaurant on way....it seemed to be common interim stop.

We stayed at Hotel Katchiquel both times and it was nice although the staff barely speaks any english at all! There is NO a/c and the breakfast is awesome. It's not on the lake, but it's nice for a one night stay. I'll be looking into other as well so keep me posted on your stay!!

If anyone hears anything about the recent damage from the mudslides PLEASE let me know!! My child's birthfamily is from this area!!
