I can not believe what happened tonight. My DH took me out for dinner for my birthday and invited my parents and my brother and his family. Well as we were leaving an older couple were commenting on how gorgeous Giuseppa is and than out of the blue the lady asks me who is the grandmother??? I looked around to make sure there was not another older lady around and I got real confused for a second and than realized...she wanted to know if I was the grandmother or my mom (my mom looks great for 67)..THAN her DH says "HONEY!!!! that's the grandmother (pointing to my mother) and that's the mother. I am like THANK GOD he can tell the difference....her response "Oh". Well my balloon deflated on my birthday and my mom's head swelled!!!! Needless to say my mom had a good chuckle at my expense!! Gotta love those mothers!!

my sister is 10 years older than me and people are always asking who is older. i know that's not the same as a mom and daughter, but it gets me every time!

Well if it makes you feel any better, the gas station guy (who I see all the time) finally saw me with my husband. He asked me if it was my son. He was serious and looked bewildered (sp) when I said that was my husband.

I kind of know how you feel. My friend who is 9 years younger than me and her 11 month old SON were shopping. I was going crazy looking at the cute GIRL clothes for my Avea, when this strange none of her business woman came up and asked if I was the grandma. I said NO!!!! I am not even a mother yet, but I am adopting a BABY!!!! I swear, the look I gave her, whooooh she would have been dead, if looks could kill. I realize that if I would have had a baby at 17 it could have happened. But to be my friends mother I would have had to be 9!!!!

I get this alot too. When my Mom was alive people used to think we were sisters. She was 52 when she died of breast cancer and looked more like a 32 year old.
But now , People think that I'm my hubby's daughter !
It's really funny ! I love it.... hubby does not !

Once my sister and I were out shopping with my nephew. Sissy is 6 years older than me and had to try on some clothes so I stayed outside the dressing room with my nephew and the lady manning the dressing rooms knew we were asked me if I was the grandma. I WAS 29 AT THE TIME!!!! So not only did I look old enough to be Asa's grandma, but my OLDER sisters MOTHER! Ugh. I guess it's payback from when my sister was 21 and would ask to buy a lottery ticket and the cashiers would tell her "sorry, you have to be 18, but I can sell it to her" and nod to me. When I was 15 it was cool. At 32? Not so much.

We've heard it every which way in my family. My mom got carded when she wanted to have a beer with her son. Only I got carded when I was with my kid sister (13 yrs younger). I was thought to be my mom's sister, my dad's wife, my kid brother's wife (9 years younger - when he was 16). The only thing I haven't gotten is whether I'm a grandma. And I suppose I should be thankful, since I am old enough to be one! I think it will happen soon, as I get more and more whities in my hair . . . .

I have always looked older than my age. This was "good" when I was 14 and buying beer and cigs, but not so great now that I'm actually feeling old.

I got married to a wonderful young lady the same age as myself, who looks much younger than her age. I have occasionally been asked about my "daughter", when we are out on the town. She has also been stopped when visiting our teenage children's school, and asked for her hall pass (thinking that she was a student).

I think most people have come to accept that she is my wife, and not my daughter, since they've seen us together enough. Yet, I do believe that most people who don't know us still think that she's my second (much younger) wife, and that the kids are not her bio kids. Of course she gets a kick out of this, but me... not so much

That is soooo funny, Sorry. The reason why it is soo funny to me is cause my ex-husband use to get that all the time (I heard he looks worse now ROFL) People thought he was ALOT older than me. The one question that always stuck in my mind was "Why would I want a grandfather figure for a husband??" and my reply was..."Uh he is only 3 years older than me!!"
