Question about toddler`s height and weight

Has anyone had the Dr. alittle wrorried aboout their toddlers weight or height? Kaleigh was 2 on April 26, she just went for her well visit today and she is 38 pounds and 38 1/4 inches tall, he wants to see her in 6 months to recheck, he wants to make sure it isnt hormonal. He wasnt real concern, but said we needed to keep an eye on it. Kaleigh grew 3 and 1/4 inches in 7 months, and put on 6 and a half pounds, she has always been in the 95th percent tile since the day we picked her up. Just wondering if anyone elce has gone through this? Thanks, Tammy

Our doctors have always said that they are looking to see if there is a sudden change on where they are on the charts. For example, a child who has always been in the 95th percentile shouldn't suddenly be in the 25th, or vice versa.

Also, are her height and weight both in the 95th percentile? My DS has always been near the top of the charts for both, and so the doctor was never concerned. Carolina, however, is consistently at the bottom for height (she is 2 and is 32 1/2 inches tall) and at the top for weight (she weighs 30 lbs). I need to bring her back next month for a "recheck," and I think we'll be sent to a nutritionist.

Her weight and height are above the 95th percent tile, at her last visit she was above the 95th percent, but closer to the line then this time, she has a high curve away from the 95th percent tile for both her weight and height, this time. Tammy

Sometimes kids will have a growth spurt, and then even out again. But I think it would be wise to have a recheck done, maybe in 3 or 4 months -- I know I would not want to wait a whole 6 months, just in case you do need a specialist.

I hope that it turns out to be just a growth spurt. (((hugs)))

I would think that it would only be a problem if there was a significant jump down the charts. My little one (16 months old) is in the 25% on the height/weight charts consistently and the doctor doesn't seem concerned about it. She's more worried about her head circumference being at 5%..... My little peanut head.

Tammy I bet it is a growth spurt, try not to worry too much..easier said than done I know...hope it all is fine at her recheck...

Dawn my little girl is 51 and 1/2 months old. She also has a very tiny head...less than 5th percentile. But it looksa fine to me ! She weighs 20 lbs and is about 30 inches tall..maybe a tad less. She is pretty small, as were her birth parents....

DS is having a recheck at 2 1/2 ... his weight has always been around 75% and his height at 25% but at 2 - the weight went to 85% and the height to 5-10%. We went from whole milk to 2% and he is taking multivitamins. I feel like he has grown but that's just me - he's small for his age but his head is just fine - always been a bit on the big side.

Ok... I am now really starting to get concerned...

Angelena is 23 lbs, at 24 months. 31 inc tall...

Compared to you and her Biological Brother... Angelo... 21 lbs at 12 months old....

this might sound stupid. But don't you compare to the mother's size, and the father's if you have that info.. Our birthmother is 4'9, we don't have our girl YET, but I don't expect her to get to tall. I kind of hope for more that 4'9 because I would love a volleyball player. But I am not expecting much more than that.

I have a pic of her birthmother, but not her height or anything. But they say your baby is half their height at 2 and a half, if my DD is already 38 3/4 now at 24 months, that would put her around 6`4 or so, I dont think her birthparents were that tall. Her birthmom did not look that tall in the pic`s we have. Guess we will have a basketball player on our hands, lol. Tammy

Personally, I don't believe in the accuracy of that 'half their height at age 2' thing. I am still hoping to be 5'10" - what I should be by that reasoning - but at age 38 I am giving up hope of another three inches! It would make my daughter 5' 4" as an adult and considering that she is only 36.5 inches at age 4.5, I find that highly unlikely. A few years ago, out of curiosity, my husband I went through our family members using that 'formula' to see how accurate it was, and found that most of the time it was way off.

Angel QT - My daughter was 24 lbs and 32 inches at 25 months old. She is now 4.5 and still only 32 lbs and 36.5 inches. But, she is also the most coordinated, athlectic, healthy child and her upper body strengh amazes me. Small but mighty!

My bio niece is always near the 99th percentile for height & weight. My sister is 5'6, her dh is 6'2ish. Anyhow, Liz says that people are almost mean in their comments-- "Wow!!! Your daughter is so BIG!" Liz will say, "Yes, our cutie is tall." And people comment, "Not just tall-- BIG!" Rachael (4.5 yo) is just beautiful and I love her to bits.

Anyhow, there is no concern on her ped's part, but then again her parents are pretty tall and she has always topped out the charts.

Peace & blessings,
Amy
