Any hairdressers out there?

I have a question. I take my DD to a children's salon for haircuts. They keep telling me that her bangs are all jacked up and that they want to do "typical, triangular bangs" I agree, her bangs were started too far back and needed to be fixed. I still want her to have bangs. I don't want them all to grow out. The problem is that in the midst of the bang growing out dilema she has all these uneven pieces from where they are growing out those odd parts. And they fall right in her face! I mean, right in her face. If you look on my blog there's a picture of her in a car. If you click on it to make it bigger you'll see what I mean. Logic tells me that as the hair grows out and hangs in your face it is most likely going to hang in your face no matter what length it is. If I don't pull Olivia's hair back (which she's not always complient with) these little pieces are forever in her eyes and they look ridiculous. So I come to you hairdressers, to please guide me. Do I keep letting them grow or gettem' chopped off?

Ooooh, I have a similar question! My two sons need their hair cut every 3-4 weeks. So it is $35 every 3-4 weeks. More than that, though, is the PAIN of trying to set up appointments for them, take them one at a time, etc.

Is there an easy, painless, quick, fool proof way for me to do it at home?

Many thanks!

Hi,
I have been a hairdresser for 23 years....My suggestion is to let it grow out. It will fall into place eventually. I have the same problem with Giuseppa and they are slowly but surely growing into place. As a matter of fact she got her hair cut today. Her hair is so fine that is just wants to go where it wants to go! But either way she looks adorable.

Hope that helps.

Rose

Hey Jules,
I would buy Wahl clippers with attachements and clip it short. BUT only if you like that style. Other than that it is hard to cut their hair. Especially since they move around alot. the clippers cost about $40-60 for a good set.

hairdresser here. For the bang delimma. Have your beautician razor her bangs in the front, to thin them out. And make them not such a blunt cut. Start pushing the hair you are trying to grow out to the sides. It might take a barrette until it gets heavy enough to lay to the sides, but it will. For the boys. If they were mine, I would have them clippered on the sides, blended up and a little longer on top. Some strong jel on top, push up bangs and separate. Very cute and easy to do. GOOD luck. any more questions I will go into more detail for you. Let me know Denise

We had the same problem with V's hair. At first her bangs were too heavy - they included the hair that went pretty far back on the top of her head. I just wanted the front fringe not even as big as a triangle.

We decided to always pull the hair on top of her head into a sort of off center pony on top and let it hang down one side. Some of the shorter pieces stood straight up right at the hair tie for awhile but it was the best way to keep them out of her face until they grew out.

Great thread! My 11 month old son has had 4 haircuts since he came home in Jan. I can't afford to keep doing it!! I'm going to buy some clippers and try it for ourselves this weekend.

A word to the wise!

My feelings - haird dressing is a profession and should be left to the professionals!!! When our first son was born he had so much hair and never lost it - had 12 haircuts his first year!!! After the 4th cut I decided - hey - how hard can this be - so I did it myself! I cut the top of his ear off!!! Easier to do than you might imagine! I cannot even begin to tell you the trauma this caused - ears really bleed A LOT!!! As long as I live I have promised myself I will never pick up a pair of hair cutting scissors again!!!

PS - tops of ears DO grow back!

We have the same bang issue and are using hair gel - it is really a painful process - but nothing compared to my prior amputation! EEKS!
