I know I'm pretty late in adding to this thread, but has anyone tried a sound machine? From the day we got home, Valentina did GREAT with going to sleep in her crib. Nap time too. Then after about 2 months, she quit napping in her crib and would wake herself up at bedtime, after I had rocked her and was putting her in the crib. We had a rocky 6 weeks/2 months. I talked to my doctor about it (after trying pretty much every suggestion I got from other people) and the doctor told me to get a sound machine. I got it, thinking it wouldn't work, Valentina was used to her music at night and she is very schedule oriented, as am I. Well, wouldn't you know it, it made a BIG difference! Love the sound machine, will not travel w/o it when we go on vacation next month! She loves the ocean waves the best, as it's very rhythmic. That was the hardest part, figuring out the best sound for her. Good luck! Sleep problems are NEVER fun!

We brought our daughter home at 14 months, and went through some attachment struggles, including sleep issues. They didn’t start until after a honeymoon period and then lasted for several months. In our case co-sleeping and playing soft music did the trick. After about three months we transitioned her into a Pack n Play next to our bed. And then into her crib in her room, with me sleeping on a mattress next to her. And then I slowly moved the mattress out of her room. This “process” took about six months.

Here is my take on it. As far as attachment goes. You only get one shot at it. We were waiting for these kiddos, they were not waiting for us. We need to earn their trust. No matter it takes. Follow those Mama instincts. If you feel that your baby needs to be rocked to sleep. Then rock her. Until your arms are numb. OK...this is me talking. Please do NOT ever let her cry it out. And I don’t care if I get stoned for saying it.

I fought so hard for my daughter. The mere thought of letting her wake in confusion and fear while she is reaching out for comfort, and I'm not there for her. Well let me just say. There is no freaking way that will ever happen. When Sabrina wakes in the night crying, I hit the ground running. And I will when she is sweet 16. A college student. When she is in her 20s, 30s, 40s. Until I hit those pearly gates. That is afterall what I signed up for. And I love it!

Best wishes. Trust me, it all gets better with time!!!

Thanks so much

I really do not believe in cry it out method either and have avoided it at all costs. I did move crib next to twin bed in her room and she does still wake up but looks over at me and goes back to sleep. I know that I have waited a year for this child and I will only do the best for her which for me is not letting her cry it out. I appreciate all of your advice and books you suggested which I will read. She also will always go to sleep in johnny jump up and then I move her to bed. God bless all of you and your little ones!
