I Need Cake!!!
LOL...Seriously, I really do. I am leaving Friday to visit Kya. She will be 11 months old this weekend. I'm planning on having a early 1st b-day party for her while we're there. It's only going to be me, Kya, my friend and her sweet baby (she's also visiting), and a friend from home who's traveling with me. So how do I get a cake??? Should I order one now? (I don't speak spanish) Do you think I can wait and get the hotel to order one the day before I need it? I would just order a few slices from the hotel resturant, but hotel cake is seriously stale!!!
Any suggestions?

Don't know where you are staying but the concierge at the Marriott ordered one for Kate's 1st Birthday.
I asked the day before. I think it was around $50. There were some posts not long ago about birthday cakes. Shay and Josie's mom (can't think of her forum name) was wondering about B-day cakes, etc. I think some folks posted about a bakery in the Tikal.

Julia, if your staying at the Westin, they have a great restaurant (Italian) that has tons of amaizng cake deserts, we went every night to pick one out. Have a great visit trip, Susie

We stayed at the Marriott and just requested our cake at the front desk and they took care of ordering and delivering......we got a pinata too! We had a great first birthday for Tyler by inviting his foster parents to dinner one last time before we went home
 Then enjoyed the rest of the cake with other families/friends in the family lounge.

The Westin has a Viennese restaurant, which also has wonderful pastries and cakes. They made a cake for Almari and sang her happy birthday. We had lunch there the day before and asked them. It was so beautiful. They didn't even charge us ut we were staying in the hotel.

When I was ther March 31st for Sofia's bday we had cake. There is a little cake shop right down the street that we ventured to in order to buy a cake. I was with her foster family, so I felt safe, but we will go and get one together!!! BTW, the cake was delicious and we took it back to La Casa Grande and ate it!!!

You could always have Vilma the basket lady get one for you. She will deliver it whatever day you want. She's wonderful and I'm sure it's not too late. PM me if you want her email addy. She responded to me within an hour, I ordered and then sent the check. I have pics of the cake on my blog if you go to May 3rd or 4th.

Go to Patsy's!
It's a patisserie 2 doors down from Casa Grande that has the most AMAZING cakes. Just walk down and they will sell you one, just point and eat. We actually go there for take out when we are there b/c I love their food and they are way cheaper than the hotel.
Good luck and enjoy that cake. btw the food at CG doesn't really suck, it just get's old real quickly. Go next door if you need something a bit better - they have great pasta. It's close enough too that the kids just went with us. have fun! shannon

We will be at Casa Grande on Sunday! Maybe we'll see you! There is a bakery/sandwich place at the end of the corner. I feel like I remember seeing some good looking cakes there. Also, when we were at our visit trip in Oct. one of the babies were celebrating their birthday. They had one of the taxi drivers go order one and pick it up from teh Walmart there. I have the guys name and number if you want to pm me. He was great. Hope to see you there!
