trouble getting name changed...help!

I have been working on getting my 2 adopted daughers first name changed for over a year. I've hired an attorney and still am getting no where??? I just want to add a first name to both the girls given Guatemalan names...of course they already have our last name. But on one even our last name is not right. This is in Iowa. Any suggestions...I'm really frustrated.

thanks,

Brie

What does the atty say? It should be a very easy process...at least that is my understanding. I am working on ours w/out an atty.

WE met with the attorney gave all the necessary documents, he then had to go to court to get a court order. Which he got. But then the office dropped the ball. Every time I call I talk to someone different the attorney is never there and never returns my calls. The vital records dept says she doesn't have the necessary paperwork???? She needs from the attorney. What a mess! Good luck with yours I hope you have a better experience than we did.

Do you have to go through an attorney? I realized it varies greatly by state and county, but can you go directly through your local probate or circuit court (seems to vary who deals with it) and take care of it yourself?
