Totally OT: Name for Gallo beer in the US?
Okay, so when I was in Guatemala, they told me that they're not allowed to sell Gallo in the U.S. because the name was trademarked already. So they sell it, but under a different name. Does anyone know the name?
I need a beer.

Oh bless you all! I had no idea...I always keep an eye out for Gallo when I am in a store that has a lot of different imports. I haven't seen Famosa (I would have likely recognized the label) but I have something to look for now! I had given up. Thanks!

Recently I drove past a liquor store in my town and on the sign it had Guatemalan Beer on sale. I didn't check the name since I am not a beer drinker but it must be available. Good luck searching!

I have had Gallo beer here in the states.... in the greater NYC area, they sell it in the Guatemalan restaurants...

thank you for asking this! my hubby bought a Gallo tshirt in Guat and when wearing it recently said that he's LOVE to have a Gallo...I immediatly thought I would run out and get some, but the only Guatemalan store didn't have any and they said they didn't know where to get any. I'll start looking again now!

Famosa if rarely stocked in stores. I get mine from a local liquor store who special orders it for me. So if you don't see it, ask if they can get it for you...

One other thing. I've had problems twice with the beer being expired. There is a date printed on the bottles.
So now my liquor store knows to make sure it is fresh when they order it from the distributor. Old Gallo does not taste right and gives me a headache (and not because I drank too many of them). Kevin Guatadopt.com

Mmmmm - I didn't have the chance to try Gallo/Femosa while in Guat but will definitely try this soon. I mean, it IS almost summer, right?
