Unbelievable. That is offensive. Whoever wrote that discription should be ashamed of themselves. Just when I thought I'd heard it all, now I have to hear that I'm a non-mom. Wonderful.
I'm editing to say that I called the number and left a heartfelt message regarding their insensivity regarding the "non-mom" category.

This is what I emailed:
I am absolutely DISGUSTED at the use of the term "non-mom" to describe an adoptive mother. As an adoptive mom of 2 beautiful boys, I am extremely offended and disappointed that such a distinguished network such as yourself would see my role in their lives as anything less than what it truly is---their MOM. By doing this, you also restrict the definition of a "Mom" to only a woman who gives birth. Not only is this absurd, but it is impractical, illogical and obviously offensive as it implies that the primary duty of a woman to her child is to only give birth. What happens after that? Who cradles them when they are sick? Who wipes away tears? Who loves and protects? Who NURTURES? I could go on and on... You are adding to the myth of nature over nurture. Had you truly observed or taken into account the relationship of a MOM with her children (adopted or not), you would see that there is no difference. My children do not see me as anyone other than MOM. I am all they have known, and I fill my role with much humility, faith, and gratitude for the blessing to be called MOM. How dare you attempt to strike that down. If you want to honor MOTHERS, then please do it correctly. It is sad that after all an adoptive family must go through to simply become a family in the first place, that we must also encounter ignorant prejudice as this in the media. Truly disappointed, M* proud MOM

Can't access their web site for some reason - maybe they're getting too many nasty e-mails from all us "non-moms" and are correcting their stupidity????

Indeed to everyone else's comment.
I too am pretty easy going and don't mind most labels, but "non-Mom" is utterly, absolutely ridiculous! Happy Non-Mother's Day? I don't even like it being applied to foster mothers! It is silly.

Wow, I normally try not to get offended by things like this but I am this time. I went and read that site and had my mouth open for 5 minutes in complete shock. I will be sending an email and demanding an apology.

I'm offended because I was left off the list of NON-MOMs. I fit the qualifications for that category, including that of not birthing my children (even if they are my "bio" kids). Just because I have a tad more hair on my face than most non-moms, and my kids call me dad most of the time (at least to my face), that shouldn't count me out of the running!

I will be writing them a letter as well. I usually don't get too worked up over technicalities, but that is just completely offensive!

I agree with you guys! It takes A LOT to offend me. (even when it comes to Alex) I find this absolutely horrible. I never really liked the Today Show, but this just seals it for me. I'm not one to write emails or make phone calls, but this has me so upset - the email is coming!
Geesh!! Kim
