OT: Doesn't want to sit in high chair

All of a sudden our 22 month old doesn't want to sit in high chairs at restaurants (he's fine at home) and wants to sit in a booster. I think he likes to sit beside us like he's one of the gang. Well the booster seats at most restaurants are wobbly, not secure etc. So we were thinking of buying one to bring with us. I didn't want anything bulkly like a traditional booster seat that you would put at your kitchen table. That's mainly the type i'm seeing. Anyone know of a good small and not bulky one we can get that we can take to restaurants?

No he weighs 30 lbs so those that attach to a table are too small for him. Plus I think it would be the same sort of idea as a high chair. He wants to sit in the booth w/ us or sit on a chair beside us.

Could he just kneel and skip the booster entirely? Or if it is a place you can get a booth, put him against the wall in the booster with someone sitting next to him so he can't tip it over?

LL Bean makes a fold-up portable booster chair that has straps for under and around the back of the chair. DS rejected his high-chair at home & in restaurants when he was about 18 months and one of my friends had one of these portable thingies that I loved. Now DS will tell me he wants to 'sit in chair' even when it's not mealtime!

He's too small to kneel and if he isn't confined to a chair he bounced, jumps up and down etc in the booth. I went on to the LL Bean website and didn't see where they sold any sort of booster chair.

I found these 2 on the toys r us website. We have the same problem with dd. We always ask for a booth and use the booster they give us and hold onto her.

the one strap on and the other is really sticky (sort of) so it stays on a chair and it is available in other colors.

We did the same....and might also be a good time to start setting boundaries....as in, you don't bounce in your chair - if you do, we leave! (seriously). He'll get it after one or two times of actually taking him outside. We became much less tolerant with our second child. First child? We would do anything to "accommodate him". 2nd? This is the rule. If you don't abide, we leave. Try it - it might work! I personally wouldn't buy anything and work with the booster, other tactics to keep him sitting still (coloring? Goldfish? etc...) Good luck!

Booster Seat

I really like the Hybak Cooshie Booster seat. It doesn't move around and is super comfortable for the kids and fairly lightweight.

Highly recommended!

We have 2 of these, one for the house and one for the car to take with us...

Fisher-Price - Baby Gear

I just moved DD into this from her high chair this week at 13 months and she is loving it. She was dying to sit like a big girl at the table with big brother...lol. It's pretty stable has a height adjuster and very lighweight to travel with and folds.

I agree the boosters are hard for them to sit in. Sometimes we just ask for a table and use the highchair without the tray and push it up to the table so he is eating off the table just like us or use one of those wooden chairs that most resturants have that just are a chair without the tray.

When I was a kid, we sat on old telephone books. (Yes, they had telephones in those days.) It may sound odd, but they are the perfect size (2 for tiny kids, 1 for taller ones) and you could keep them in the car in case you need them. No fancy straps, but at least they don't give you a false sense of security like some of those rickety restaurant boosters.
