Passport Question
Hi Friends,
I have a passport question.. My dh is going to Guatemala for a mission trip at the end of June. His passport expires Aug 8th, so it will still be good when he travels.. The trip coordinator just sent an e-mail that dh may have to renew his passport before his trip, because some countries require a passport be valid at least 90 days before travel.. My question to all of you is this.. Does Guatemala require the 90 day valid passport before travel? His trip is only 8 days, so he will be back long before it expires..Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kim

some require it to be valid for another 6 months. whether guatemala requires it to be valid for XX amount of time after time of travel is beyond me....but i will say this. guatemala is unpredictable
i would hate for your dh to be allowed to go, and then have difficulty coming back.....or get all the way to the airport here, only to be turned away from the gate. even if you get solid confirmation that it will be okay, i would still renew it bc one thing i have learned at airports is that a rule one person will not enforce, another will. luck of the draw. we just got eli's passport, it only took 7 days. the backlog seems to be cleared up, i'd get a new one....just in case. |

I would get it re-newed to be on the safe side.
The embassy doesn't mention the 90 day rule on their website but you could call and ask. For further information regarding entry, exit and customs requirements, travelers should contact the Guatemalan Embassy at 2220 R Street NW, Washington, DC 20008; telephone (202) 745-4952, extension 102; fax (202) 745-1908; e-mail at info@guatemala-embassy.org or contact the nearest Guatemalan consulate (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, or San Francisco). I paid for the expedited service and got mine in 7 days! I was shocked.
