OT: 2 year molars still not all the way through

Olivia has been cutting her bottom 2 year molars forever (it seems). I'm thinking she started them around Feb or early March. The one on the right is still only half way through while the one on the left is almost completely through. Do molars really take this long or do I need to have this looked at? She doesn't seem to be in any pain. Her top ones haven't even started....She's 2 years 7 months old...

Heart Molars

I really don't know what is normal, but Ava just had her two year check up last week and her molars were all the way thru. She turned two 4/8. Sorry, your little one's are taking a bit, hopefully they are not too painful!

My bio son is almost 2 years and 7 months (will be on the 4th of May). He has just cut his 2 bottom 2yr molars. Top not in sight. I mean he just cut them this past weekend. They are not all the way in. At his 2 yo check up the DR. mentioned he was late getting is eye teeth (they had just come in then) that is 2yo molars would probably be awhile. He was not concerned. He is my 4th child and they are all just different I wouldn't be to worried if they aren't bothering your little one.

HTH,
Lori

2 yr molars

My son got his 2 year molars this past fall (at about 28-29months). It took forever for them to break through and caused him a lot of discomfort. I remember one day in particular when he was screaming from the ache. I really felt bad for him and couldn't do much to help other than Motrin and Freeze Pops to cool the area. As soon as they broke through, he was good! He had some bleeding with it, which was probably why there was so much discomfort. He never really had issues with teething when he was a baby, so I was shocked this time around. I hope your little one has it a bit easier than my guy did.

Ava got the bottom two about at about 2 1/2 and they took forever to come all the way in.

The top two are just finally almost all the way in now at nearly 3 1/2.

Our twins just turned 2 in March and all of their teeth have come in slow and late! At 1 years old, they didn't even have any teeth...finally, they all decided to come in at the same time. Our smallest twin, Kloey, had one tooth that was having a horrible time coming in...our pediatrician saw it at her 2 year old check up. She told me I might want to take her to a Pediatric Dentist b/c sometimes cysts can develop and cause the teeth not to be able to come in...and her gums were extrememly swollen. So, I made an appointment and we went (the tooth had broken thru by the time we went). Anyway, he said some kids' teeth just come in slower than others and he wasn't concerned. He said some children have teeth early and some have teeth late so I just think it's one of those things where "every child is different". Hope this gives you some reassurance...it was for me since they are both late in cutting teeth!

I have a ds who is almost 20 months and all but one tooth is in, molars are done. While my dd who is the same age only has 4 teeth (2 top and 2 bottom). Dr says not to worry they will come at their own pace. Then there's my 8 month old who already has 3 teeth.

Everyone is different in their eruption of teeth. I am sure she is just taking a little longer. She should see a dentist at about 3 years old to get her teeth cleaned and an exam. Most children can't handle a dental appointment before then. I am a dentist and that is when we recommend the children to come in, though it does help if they come in for their parents appointments to get used to the office. ( I am a dentist)

Yes, my oldest DD was almost 4 when her 2 year molars were finally all the way through...and now at 5 1/2 she is upset because most kids in her preschool class have lost a tooth and none of hers are remotely close to being loose. She will probably be 8 before she loses one!
