Readoption with an IR3 - FL or GA

Please tell me what the requirements, cost, etc... are when a child comes home on an IR3. I would be interested to hear about FL (where we currently live) or GA (where we will be relocating). I am debating whether to do it now or when we move.

TIA!
Chris

Every county in Florida is different. It is not a state thing, it is county specific.

I understand there each county is somewhat different in Georgia too. We haven't done ours yet.

I'm in Lee County Fl which is south east. It was pretty painless but I did have to hire an attorney to do the paperwork. It was way too complicated to try to do on my own. Make sure you hire someone that knows the process. I spoke to a few that told me they had a little bit of knowledge but they would have to research. That means more money and a possibility that something would need to be redone. I paid $1200 for my attorney and that covered all the fees too. I got a Florida certificate of foreign birth and a legal name change. The only thing I have to do now is get her SSS card changed to her legal name and her COC changed to her legal name. Good luck!

When I said it covered all fees too I meant all the court fees and the lawyer fees. I felt I may have been a little unclear.

PM me if you want the website and name of an attorney in FL who does this. He will travel anywhere in the state for your court hearing. He's an adoptive dad(from China) and loves to do these cases and is reasonable. All you have to do is send the paperwork and show up in court.

You can do it yourself, but yes, all counties are different and the judges can be easy or difficult from what I understand. I was just so over paperwork at that point, I didn't want to deal with it myself.

I'm in Florida. I called the local court house here, Family division and they told me we had to file a petition with the courts for re-adoption and name change could both be done together at the same time, for $255.00. No Lawyer needed. I am in Putnam County. Please e-mail me privately if you would like. I have the paperwork!!
