Child gets easily hot?

Our 21 month old seems to get hot easily. If he is running around playing etc his cheeks turn bright red-even in the winter. We always seem to dress him cooler than most kids. It's spring here and when his class goes outside at 70 degrees he turns really red and gets a lil sweaty. Is this ok? I'm just wondering if it's some sort of condition or anything. He seems fine otherwise.

yes! we were concerned when we brought our daughter home. she was always getting sweaty--she'd be soaking wet with sweat when she drank her milk. we looked into it and even saw our pediatrician, who said she is okay. our over-concern did, however, lead us to discover that she has a hole in her heart (which we are told is very common and will close itself eventually). my husband is the one who took her to all of her appointments, so i'll ask him for details and get back to you....

Well he doesn't get sweaty that easily-it's more of the very red flushed face . Only if he is running around playing in the house or if he's outside. But i've noticed that he gets red or sweaty a lot easier than his peers. Even in the winter we put him in short sleeve pj top b/c if we didn't he'd be kind of sweaty.

I have no idea if from a medical standpoint there could be anything of concern causing it, but I can say that my kids are like that too.

I would have never thought that with their darker skin they would become obviously flushed, but they do. Even more so than my pale bio son.

They also tend to sweat a LOT and tend to be very warm in general. My daughter strips down to her underwear at night when she goes to bed and I can never put her in sweaters or sweatshirts. She would just cook. She is quite happy in short sleeves or lightweight long sleeves even in the dead of winter. And she is forever taking off her coat outside unless it is absolutely freezing.

both of my boys do this. eli, now 2, and my 4 and half year old from the US. they sweat when they sleep, eli's head gets hot and sweaty after playing for just a few minutes. if we go to the park...it is all over. i've expressed concern more than once to more than one doctor...they all said the boys are fine and some people just "run hotter" than others.

i think it is always worth it to ask the peds....but i wouldn't worry until then.

Yup, same thing with my daughter. The girl is NEVER COLD. She gets pink-cheeked and damp-haired very easily. To think I was worried about taking her from Guatemala to a northeastern U.S. climate. Winter didn't bother her a bit!

poppin in from the Russia board. My 4 yr old siberian prince has been this way since we have had him home. His cheeks are always flushed when he is outside and even in the carseat when it gets warm outside.

His arms also turn red, I mean beat red like a bad sunburn, but it goes away after an hour or so.

He is very fair skinned. I asked the doctor about it and she was not worried.

He 5 yo brother also adopted from Russia does not do this.

Sweaty

I learned from our China adoptions that kids who get very sweaty (not necessarily hot or red) is because they have a Vitamin D deficiency - both of our daughters came home from China and were very sweaty all the time - once they had forumla for about a month they were fine. Not sure this has anything to do with it - but you could discuss with your Dr.

It can just be a normal thing...

My son was always like that. Even as a toddler playing outside, he could soak through his shirt! His hair was often damp.

However, his doctors have found it just to be a normal thing for him. Some people are just like that. At 17, much to his chagrin, he still sweats a lot.

Yes, indeed - DS has always run on the warm side - his hands are always on the warm side even during the coldest months. He's been that way since I first saw him.

While definetly check into where there might be a medical issue if you are concerned, I do want to agree with this poster that it can be completely normal. My best friend (in her late 30's) has been like that her whole life. As is her pre-teen son. The moment it gets about about 65 degrees they just start dripping. Particularly if they are exerting themselves at all. I would assume there is some genetic basis for it.

Well of course, if you're concerned, talk to your ped. But our IA doc says that Latin American children tend to get 'sweaty' more easily that N. American kids. We also dress our kids in cooler clothing & jammies because they do get overheated more quickly but it seems to be a normal thing.

When I went to visit in Jan I noticed that Joshua was sweeting a lot more than usual, and I was concerned about that too. I am reading everyones responses to this thread and I feel better right now knowing that this can be common. So, thanks for posting
