OT: Remove urine smell from carpet??

My dog got upstairs and pee'd on the corner of my sons crib onto the carpet. I have tried several over the counter products and cannot get the smell out. Does anyone have a solution that works??

Edited to add...yes i've used two types of Natures Miracle. One for pet stains and one just for odor. Neither worked a bit.

Thanks!!!

Have you tried the pet urine remover stuff from Petco/Petsmart?

That's worked for us, when we had a cat that was having...issues....

The stuff at Petco/Petsmart works. Called Miracle something. When I had my rescued dogs that got excited.

We have always had luck with a product called Nature's Miracle. I have found that it does not instantly take out the smell. I have treated the spot(s) and felt like it didn't work...but, waited it out and the smell does go away. It seems like it has to have time to COMPLETELY dry...I was probably being too impatient. It has worked for us on both cat and dog urine. I believe you can only find it at stores like Petsmart and Petco.

We used something we bought directly from our vet when our cat was having issues. The Petco/Petsmart one worked very well too!

When using the Nature's Miracle or those types of products, if there is ANY chance that the urine got down to the pad you have to soak the carpet down to the pad with the NM and then let it dry out. It can take a lot of the product and a long time to completely dry. And the smell won't be gone until it's completely dry.

Not to be a total downer, but it never worked completely for us (although it was the best of all the products we tried). The dogs could still smell it and kept using the spot. We got rid of the carpet.

We use this stuff - we find it MUCH better then Nature's Miracle.

AntiIckyPoo.com - Remove Cat Urine Odor and Dog Urine Odor

but honestly, a few months ago we had to get in a professional carpet cleaner. . .

I have 3 dogs. I like to use vinegar and hot water. Sometimes i'll clean it with soap and water first if it's a bad one. This seems to work fine for us! And it's cheap!

I got this recipe online and it works well. It has stopped the pets from returning to the site and doing it again.
ODOR REMOVER

16 oz. (2 cups) hydrogen peroxide

2 tsp. baking soda

2 small drops liquid dishwashing soap (Dawn, Palmolive, etc.)

Place all ingredients in a glass jar or bowl. Gently stir--do not beat or shake--until baking soda is dissolved.

If urine is fresh, be sure to blot up any excess urine with dry paper towels or a dry washcloth before the next step.

Pour mixture over urine spot, making sure to cover the entire spot. Allow mixture to completely soak the area being treated. Do not rub or scrub! Let sit for 24 hours without disturbing.

After 24 hours, take clean paper towels or a clean, white washcloth and blot up any remaining liquid (Again, do not rub or scrub.).

Allow area to air dry completely. If you are treating carpet, you can vacuum over the area when dry.

Makes 16 oz. (2 cups) of solution.

Tips:
 •
The solution is most active for one hour after mixing. Be sure to apply the solution within this time period for maximum effectiveness.
Do not enclose the mixture in an airtight container, or you could have a big mess on your hands! The reason for this is because when the ingredients are combined they release oxygen (Remember making "volcanoes" out of baking soda and vinegar when you were a little kid? Similar principle here.).
Two alternate methods of applying the solution are using a spray bottle or a garden watering can. A spray bottle works best for applying the solution to hard surfaces like concrete or linoleum, or to vertical surfaces like walls or shower tile (This is not the best method for carpet.). Just be sure to thoroughly spray the area you are treating. A garden watering can is best for medium to large areas--indoors or outdoors.
For really tough odors, you may have to treat the area more than once. Carpet, furniture and mattresses typically require 1-2 treatments. Concrete, wood, tile and other hard surfaces usually need 3-5 treatments (1 treatment per day).
For concrete and other hard surfaces, you want to make enough of the recipe to completely cover the stain. Pour or spray the solution on and let it soak, soak, soak. Do not mop or wipe up. Let it sit for 24 hours (depending on the humidity level, it will usually evaporate during this time). Repeat the treatment once a day for 3-5 days.
 • For mattresses, the best thing to do is to make a double, triple or even quadruple batch of the recipe--enough to completely cover the stain--and then really pour it on. Don't be afraid of saturating the mattress. The urine has gone deep into the mattress, so you need to make sure that there's enough solution to go deep into the mattress as well. The solution has to reach the urine to neutralize it. We recommend treating the mattress in the morning so that the solution can work through the day. The mattress will often be dry enough for use by bedtime.

Ok I have used and tried everything. With 2 dogs and 6 cats, I have credo here. Search online for Planet Urine. Buy the kit with the the three steps. Follow the instructions completely and don't be shy with the powder. The only thing I do differently is use the release spray in conjunction with a Bissel type machine. Do this a few times, then use the powder. Make sure you put the powder under the carpeting. Also if the padding has been wet, that needs to be replaced. Easy to do, just get some from Home Depot, etc. Once you put the powder down, wait 2 days and vacuum. I tell you this stuff is incredible and never never will you use anything other.

My vet (a professor at the local Vet School) swears by Urine Off (http://www.urineoff.com/). I had used Nature's Miracle (took the color out of my carpet) and Simple Solution (worked great... especially on cement), but she said Urine Off was even better than either. My dogs were receiving chemo and other treatments at the time... and I have to say... Urine Off worked GREAT!! There is absolutely no smell... even when I stick my nose right into the carpet!

I spray the spot with Shout Stain Remover (the stuff you use on your clothes) then generously sprinkle baking soda on it while its wet. When it dries vaccume up. The Shout is supposed to break down the enzymes in the urine.

The Equalizer

I confess I have 7 dogs! I use something called Equalizer, works way better than natures miracle. I get it at the vet so you will have to find it online.
BTW my best friend is a vet and she would use it when her little girl would pee on the bed and it worked for that too. Good luck

I have tried every single suggestion here for cat pee. Our cat peed all OVER the place in one specific corner the entire time we were on our PU trip in Jan. 07. Like I said, tried every suggestion listed so far and can still smell the urine. So, sometimes I think it just doesn't come out. We carpeted this house when we moved in so it's only 5 years old and a HUGE area..it would be a fortune to replace it so we won't do that. SOmetimes when I am sitting on the couch I get a "wiff" of it and it makes me SICK. We have even had professionals' come out and the only way to get ride of it? REPLACE IT. But in order to do that we would have to replace the carpet in a HUGE area since it would effect the entire main floor (split level house). We would be looking at over $2000 to replace the carpet over just one corner. This is a BAD subject with me as I am anal about keeping my house clean. Luckily, dog urine is MUCH easier to get out IMO.
