Me too, I can't imagine what they are feeling right now. Makes me worry about my own adoption, will we ever be able to breathe?

On the one hand, much of what the reporter says is inaccurate. Yet, if there is proof that women have been provided with false IDs... ???? (And I don't know if there is any proof)

While I am confident in the system and its safeguards, if there are individuals who are deliberately trying to get around the safeguards, I suppose there will always be those who succeed on doing so.

I think it is pretty sad that a couple would have to go through false measures to give up a child they know they can't take care of. The whole system down there really does need some fixing.

If a child had two married parents, then under US immigration law the child would not qualify as an "orphan" and could not be adopted into the US. That was not mentioned in the article, but could be a strong motivator for falsifying information.

But in this instance, where under the information presented the relinquishment was voluntary, what purpose would be served by "undoing" the adoption? What would happen to the child?

And what a scary thought for the rest of us who have adopted from Guatemala. At what point would we have certainty that the government would not seek to undo an adoption? Certainly I would not want a child to be taken from his mother without her consent; conversely, however, if his mother relinquished him voluntarily but there were documents falsified, what purpose would be served in "returning" him to Guatemala to serve out a life sentence in an orphanage?

It's a scary thought.

My thoughts exactly. But if it were discovered that the child did not qualify as an orphan for US immigration, then the law says the child would have to be deported -- and then what happens to them? Ripped from their US families for what?

Those poor families have endured so much already. Those children deserve better than what they are going through. I pray for them daily and hope that everything works out and those babies are with their forever families soon. I can only imagine the fear in the Ball family as they contemplate what could happen to their child!! Sending prayers to heaven for them now.

Blessings

It truely makes my heart sick to think that corruption has entered these children's lives. I truely hope that it is sensationalism journalism...although I know it's not all made up. Please say a prayer for all of the children that will be left behind because of a a few unscrupulous souls didn't know when to quit.

I just read the article myself.....very disturbing. Do you think this is based on something new in that Antigua hogar's cases??? Or just recycled old news??

The deal about 2 identifies for the one b-mom does help explain something for me. I could never understand what people meant when they said faked documents & now I think I get it.

That article made my blood run cold.
It is horrific for the birthmothers, children and adoptive parents alike.
I can see the birthmother having two identities since you don't know her circumstances. Her own safety could be at risk, especially when the new ID was done on the day she gave birth.
I pray for all those involved, especially the children.

Merged the two threads on the same topic - to keep the discussion in one place, since it centers around a specific agency/situation.
