For those of you who have requested US passport

for your child after readoption, what did you have to show/send to receive your passport? I have her COC with her old name on it, and I have the readoption papers with the new name on it. What did you have to send, and did they give you a hard time?

Thanks
Tiffany

Tiffany-

You need her new BC with her name in the US and showing you as her parents. You likely will also need to send the readoption decree.

I am working on getting Aidan's new BC right now so I can get his passport- I was told today, that it will take another month to issue his BC after I ordered it- so 16 weeks from the date of readoption, I might be able to start the paperwork on his passport. It is a joke that I have to wait 12 weeks after the readoption in order to order his BC and then I have to wait another 4 weeks for expedited service to have the BC in my hands.

We need to get together soon.

Love to you,

I sent the COC with his original name, his original BC, his readoption and name change and his new BC. I may have sent too much but figured better safe then sorry.

Good luck!

I cannot believe how long it is taking for one poster to get her new BC. For me, it was the easiest part of the paperchase. I went to my town hall with the new name paperwork, filled out a form and they called me in a week with the new BC's. The clerk was an adoptee and didn't even charge me saying I had already paid enough! It is so aggravating that they make all this stuff so hard.

Same here - Kathy - it was easy to go to my town hall and show them the court readoption - they didn't even keep anything. I went to the post office to send off for DSs passport and we included everything - CoC, readoption papers - all originals ... I was wary but everything including his new passport came back within 6 business days - and yes, I did pay to expedite but had no choice - I waited too late.

The state of OHIO has to make everything difficult. I wish I could have just walked it down the hall of the courthouse to vital records and gotten it then. I even joked with the clerk that Guatemala could give me one in 1 day after the adoption decree was signed.
I seriously think it is a money making scheme for them. And to add insult to the whole thing, i can't request it online becuase the stupid on line form requires the father's name (I am a single mom) and when I put in NONE, it came back and said the last names did not match so I needed to verify and there was no verify or submit button at that point.

Very frustrating process right now- but the readoption was quick and painless, so I can not truely complain.

Love to you,
