Questions for anyone that has been to the zoo in GC?
I am thinking about taking Josie & Shay to the GC Zoo while we're there.
I have heard that it's not that big, and we could see everything in just a few hours, is this right? Can you tell me about how much admission is? What did you do about eating and drinking? Did you eat there? Were there snack type foods for the kids there? Bottled water? Did you bring your own stroller? I know it's not easy putting a stroller into a cab. (I think I am going to bring my umbrella stroller on the trip this time.) Any other info. that you would like to offer, I would appreciate very much. TIA

It is small but beautiful with a good variety of animals. Everything is clean. We usually figure a few hours.
Admission is Q15 per adult and half for children 2+. There is few snack stands through out the zoo for purchasing bottled water, soda's, chips, ect. There are also a few restaurants there, Pizza Hut, Camperos, Sarita's for icecream ect.... You can rent strollers just inside the front entrance. I never have, so no advice there. Hope this helps

Carla ~ There is also a Children's Museum down the street from the zoo, and we liked it much better than the zoo.. It's inside and air conditioned.. It's more like a Science Center.. VERY nice and modern.. Plus, the girls had more freedom to just run around instead of being in a stroller..

We visited the zoo our first visit with our son ( he was 5 at the time). We LOVED it! The animals were just beautiful...very close and ALIVE ( not drugged up if you know what I mean). There were lots of places to grab a snack..very clean...very nice...and very safe. We missed it going on our 2nd trip. There is also a VERY nice open air market right across the street.
I would so recommend going to the zoo! We had a blast and have some amazing pictures of the animals too. Karen

Go to the zoo; you and the kids will have a nice time. We had snacks, soda and bottled water thru-out that we bought there.
However, on your way out of the zoo is an assortment of vendors that make food and snacks (that are not packaged) available. They have tables set up. We were told by our fm/ff NOT to buy anything from these vendors. Our fm/ff said a very real possibility of getting sick from this food. I have travelled all over GC, and Antigua with them. This was the only place they said do not eat from.

Liana and I LOVED the zoo. We went twice.
Each time we took a cab, and arranged for the same driver to pick us up after two hours. We tossed the stroller in the back of the cab, and tipped the driver a little extra for putting it in and taking it out. We snacked there in the zoo, but I brought drinks to sip on while we were walking. Enjoy!

Be sure to bring Quetzales, the zoo and the places inside do not take USD.
You'll enjoy yourselves, we've been several times and I can't wait until we get to go back. Tina

Definitely go. Our family has such fond memories. We went last year at this time. It felt wonderful to walk around in the warm after being cooped up in our house all winter. Now for the details:
It was $7 admission - not per person, but for our entire family of five. Bring quetzales. Bring your own sunscreen - we could not find any for sale - guess they don't need it there. There are several kiosks serving lunch fare- we chose the Pollo Campanero, which was great. An umbroller stroller is perfect. Your cab driver will load and unload it for you. Ours also returned in a few hour to drive us back to the hotel. Check out the "American deer," "American squirrel" and "American raccoon." We got a kick out of that. Our favorite animal was the howler monkey. Our other favorite part was seeing all the schoolchildren on field trips, dressed in miniature versions of Mayan clothing. Rachael
