HELP with adoption tax credit!

I am using a big name tax preparer who has done my taxes forever. I took part of the adoption tax credit in 2005 and another part in 2006. Now, for some reason, their new computer system is saying I can't take it. I have not received the $10,000+ dollars of the credit. My tax person just called and said she checked with her district manager and he said it is a "non-refundable" credit. Since I didn't make enough money when I took it, I can't get the full amount. I explained that my understanding is that we have 5 years to carry it over to try to get the full amount. She said, no, it is "non-refundable" and therefore I can't carry it over. I then pointed out that I've already carried it over 2 years and why are things suddenly different now? IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP ME WITH THIS? Is she right or do I still get to take it for 2007? I have about $2000 left of the $10,000+ and I would hate to lose it because their computer system is new! I appreciate any advice or explanation anyone can give me! Thanks!!!

Well, this is a very limited amount of help, but you are right. You can carry it over for up to 5 years.

Now you may not be able to use it if you already have more deductions than you paid in taxes. You can't use it to get back more than you paid in. (Not sure if I am explaining that well!) But from your description, that doesn't sound like what the issue is.

Hopefully someone here can give you a link or something with some specifics. If you get desperate, my SIL works for one of those 'big name tax preparers' and I can email her and see if she can get me any info.
