HELP!!! My temp is 102.5 F!

I've been running about 100 F since Friday with a sore throat. Since 11:30 pm tonight my temp has been rising. How do I break it? I've been taking Advil, but it doesn't seem to helping.

You could try taking a lukewarm bath. Just make sure it's lukewarm, not cold. If I were you, I would call my doctor or visit an urgent care center. Do you have any flu symptoms? I know the flu is ravaging the country right now. You might also have strep throat.

cold bath and put a lot of water in your head and neck area. Tylenol and Motrim are better than Advil for fever. (that's what our pediatrician told us once)
Hope you feel better.

Lots of fluids and lots of rest. Tylenol every 4 hours.

A cool cloth on your neck and/or forehead will make you feel more comfortable.

Call the doctor of it continues - you might have a secondary infection that is causing it.

There is a nasty flu going around here and Ana had a temp of 103 degrees for 3 days before it finally broke. She almost had to go to her favorite place - the doctor's.

My daughter Tessa's was 106 on Saturday. The Dr. told us that Motrin every 6 hours is best. We also had to sponge bathe her to get her temp. down. It took two hours to get it down to 101.5, but it worked.

I hope you are feeling better soon!!!!!

Hey,
Alternate tylenol and Motrin q 2 h (ie every two hours until the temp breaks) Cool cloths on the back of the neck and the armpits works well also. That is what we do on the floor at the hospital.... get tested for influenza A and B it is fierce this season....

It wouldnt be crazy to call the doc and be seen.

Motrin and Advil are the same thing (from a previous poster). You can take 800mg or 4 regular advil (which are 200mg in the OTC strength). Some people dont realize they can take 4 tabs. 2 tabs just doesnt work sometimes, especially for fever. So make sure you are taking enough.

For the short term you can definately take 1000mg (or 2 extra strength) tylenol and interchange that with the 800 mg of motrin every 3-4 hrs.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

We have seen quite a bit of strep going around. It has an incubation period of 7 to 10 days, so I would see a doctor to rule it out. I had it and did not know it. My symptoms went away for about 4 days and then came back with a vengence! Get better!

Hope since this post, you've gone to the doctor. There are a million things, including Strep, that it can be.... and we shouldn't mess around with fevers in adults, especially ones that don't go away in a day or so.

I just wanted to add my "get well" thoughts. I would probably call my dr.

Peace,

I work for a Dr. and we're seeing LOTS of flu and strep. You really need a blood test/culture taken to be sure. If your temp is that high you probably have some type of infection/virus going on and need antibiotics or Tamiflu. Hope you're feeling better SOON!

Thank you all for your WONDERFUL input! I went to my dr. yesterday and they took a swab of my throat and nostrils to test for strep and flu. They were both negative. I had also woken up with TERRIBLE pain behind my right eye, through my temple and down my neck. Dr. says it is probably a bad sinus infection.
He gave me a steroid shot and a Rx for Z-pac. I am feeling MUCH better today. No fever, but throat still stings.

Oh good - I'm so glad you're on the mend. Sometimes as parents we forget to take care of ourselves.
