I got a response to the email I sent to DOS....anyone else hear back?
Thank you for your e-mail. We have repeatedly asked the Government of Guatemala to ensure a fair, transparent process for registering these cases. As of Friday, we were assured that the offices of the Central Authority were scheduled to be open all weekend in an effort to register all of these cases. Unfortunately, as I understand it, the time limit for the registration process was written into the legislation. It may require new legislation for this period to be extended. We will continue to monitor the situation and advocate on behalf of the families who had adoptions already in process on December 31, 2007. Gerry Fuller.

Guys/Gals,
The likelihood that they will be bale to pass legislation to change the deadline is low. In fact, I was having this same conversation with another person today. I think they know they are up against a wall and the weekend hours are their attempt to make it right. The unfortunate part is that this may be little too late. Lets pray they work fast. Hold onto your seats race fans.

I got the same response too.....does anyone think it would help to approach the Guatemalan Embassy? I happen to live in a town that has one.

I don't know....might not hurt, although it seems they wouldn't be ones to pressure their own process/people. I don't know. I'm not sure how they operate. Maybe they would have more info....not sure
