I have been contemplating on buying a MAC for about a year now. I just ordered my MAC and hoping I just did not make a big mistake. I asked a few friends and they said they love theirs. So tell me about your MAC experiences good or bad!
thanks |

Macs RULE! They don't get viruses and last forever. My laptop I use everyday - I bought 6 years ago used for $800. NO PC would EVER last that long! I don't use it for much except surfing the net and pics, but it still runs great!
You will love it and you made the right decison!

I was a die hard MAC user until recently when, due to work needs, I had to buy a PC. Macs are AWESOME!!! They are intuitive, easy to use, and just everything a computer should be!!!! I long for the day where there is true compatibility (at a moderate price) so I can go BACK TO MAC!!!! My first Mac had a B/W monitor and no hard drive! LOL EARLY DAYS!! I drool over all the new MACs everytime I see them. I have NEVER been even half as happy with a PC than I have been with every MAC I've had. If you are used to a PC there will be a little adjustment period...but it will be like "adjusting" from a using long division to a calculator--yes it's different--but SO WORTH IT!! LOL Hope you love it!!! (and I'm SO jealous!)

I am a long time Apple user -- the first computer I used was an Apple IIc -- and love my Macs. Our latest, greatest is the one I'm on now, a 24" iMac w/ Mac OS 10.5. Very nice, I love it.
Honestly, though, I'm not one to worry too much about what computer I use to surf the net, do word processing on, etc. However, the Mac OS is a more comfortable environment. And, when I do anything involving graphics, hands down, I want my Mac. Also, with the newer, Intel-based Macs, you can still have Windows. We have Windows XP on this computer, so that I can boot into it for some programs for my wife. It was a very, very odd experience to see Windows booting up, with that slick Apple logo on my computer! Don't worry, you'll love it!

i do not think you made a mistake at all. i have converted as many family members as will let me. they are so easy to use, everyone is happy as can be. i think you are gonna love it!!! we are a mac house and couldn't be happier.
few tips: things are a little different, but easier so don't get frustrated and give up. unlike a pc, updates are very important. apple only does updates when there is something worth updating so make sure to do them when they put them out there. iphoto is great. web browser-i prefer safari over firefox, but every now and then i bump into a non safari page. just switch to firefox and all is well. airline websites tend to prefer firefox. did you get applecare? ichat is fun. what machine did you get? any problems post a OT Mac thread, i am sure anyone who can will run to your rescue. i'll make sure to get dh too. he is the mac man! welcome to peaceful computing and no blue screens. jessica

My MAC book 2gb 120hd is on its way. I hated to do it, but I am using financial aid from school for it.
I am hoping it doesn't crash as much as my PC does. It gets really annoying. |

i remember the days of apple IIc and IIe!
depends what you need your pc for. if it's graphic design, movies, etc, then a mac is fantastic. it's still good for other applications, but not as big as a divide compared to PCs. too bad your PC has been crashing/locking up so much. my PC hasn't locked up in years. i'm sure you'll be happy. i just wish mac prices went down. can't beat a $500 pc that lasts for years! |

I've always had a mac. My latest is the iMac G5, had it for about 2 years and love it.
I do worry that once my daughter gets into school and has papers to write ect. if this is going to be a problem with the schools and her friends having PCs. Also, if anyone knows how to burn a video DVD I would love the info. I'm not the most computer literate person but usualy I can figure things out and this has stumped me. I've tired to copy a few DVD's for some friends and I cant do it. Yes, my computer does have a DVD burner. Thanks

Burning a DVD vs. copying a DVD:
If you created a movie in iMovie, you export it ("Share" in the iMovie lingo) to iDVD, with all the chapters set up in iMovie. If you want to copy a DVD, there isn't a Mac OS way to do it, at that I am aware of (Mac OS X 10.5 is a little new to me). You need an application that will copy the DVD to your hard drive, and then burn the copy to the new DVD. These applications are right on the edge of the law. Their claim is that copying a lawfully-owned DVD allows the user to make a copy for him/herself, and so they aren't breaking the law (copying it requires breaking the code that prevents ordinary copying). The movie makers disagree. But, as far as I know, you don't get in trouble for using them, and they are free. Look at versiontracker.com for downloads of this type of software.
