Lost baby after 1/1/08 for whatever reason?
I know most everyone knows my story, but are there any others who have lost their baby after 1/1/08 who want to chat about what happens next? For any who didn't know, our baby died shortly after the new year. We are, of course, devestated and drifting in the sea of unknowns at this point. Just looking for anyone else who might have had birthmom decide to parent, DNA not match, or whatever other reason for losing the child they were adopting. Please feel free to PM if you don't want to share with everyone.
Aileen waiting to see Ariana in Heaven someday

I have not recently lost a referral, but I am so sorry to hear your sad news. What is your agency saying? I thought about this situation arising and am curious legally what your options are. I suppose your agency will try to switch you to another country, or wait and see if adoptions start again. Please keep us posted. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Our agency is saying that we can either wait it out to see what happens in Guatemala or we can switch to one of their other countries. For now, we are waiting because our hearts are 100% in Guatemala. We're praying for a miracle and that adoptions will start again soon.

I believe in miracles. I know everyone is concentrating on inprocess cases but I am hopeful that a few attys have their eye on the future and feel the new law may faclitate adoptions again. A long way off maybe but I'll be watching as well. I think of you often, and I hope you find peace while you wait. B.

I lost a baby once in an adoption. We were adopting from the Soviet Georgia and the baby died two weeks before we were to get him- I understand your pain. We just had to, at that point take a few steps back and catch our breath and grieve. I know that most do not see the delay as a positive thing but maybe in your case it would be a good thing. I say stay where your heart is and you will never go wrong. I will be praying for you and your family to have peace in whatever you decide.

I wanted to share that we lost a baby last year on March 16th. We were adopting domestically. We had been on list for several years and got the call. We left to go to the hospital for birth. We stayed with his first mom from Wed night until Thursday night when he was born. We were there for the birth. I knew something was not right with his breathing but honestly thought he would be OK. The next day we made the hardest decision of our lives. We took him off life support. He had a very rare genetic disorder but he was beautiful and you could have never known that he was ill by looking at him. HIs first Mom held him first and then said she wanted his "mommy" to hold him until he passed. That was the hardest thing I have ever been through. My husband I sobbed, prayed, sobbed, prayed. He is buried here with our name. He will forever be in our hearts and we are so thankful for even the short time we had. We decided from there to step back. BUt, we have a dd and we figured if our family was complete, it was. Do what is best for you. There is no cookie cutter directions to follow. God Bless you during your time of grief.

Aileen I think of you often and I can't imagine what you are going through.
My situation is totally different than yours and not even able to be compared to yours, but if you are hoping that adoptions will open again and that you will be able to adopt from Guatemala then we do have something in common. We have decided that if Guatemala opens back up we are going to adopt my dd's foster brother. We just made this decision last night and we are hopeful, excited, and scared it may not ever happen. I am going to forward you something that may give you hope of adoptions reopening.
