Wait a year before filing G-884??

We were told to wait a year before filing for our G-884 (the document to get our original files back). That it takes time for the documents to make it to where they are supposed to be. Has anyone else been told this? I can not remember how long we waited with our first adoption.
Thanks
Kristin

I filed around 5 months after we got home. I was told to file with the last office that took action, and that was the Buffalo, NY office (Certificate of Citizenship). I got a letter from them a couple weeks later that they were processing it and that we would get it in apx 60 days. The records arrived apx 8 weeks later.

Good luck!

i filed a month after eli came home...i basically just waited for the coc. they did make me re-do my supporting documentsso that they were notarized (don't worry, this is not normal and happens to very few people. ) , and i still got my papers about april-ish...so they didn't need a year

I agree with the others. Wait until you get the COC or Green Card, but no need to wait beyond that.
