OT: 2008: Is your home for sale poll?

mine is. it has been for a year. we dropped the price by 1/3 (ouch!) and finally got an offer, and are hoping for one more today. where are you at in this crazy market? (you can vote more than once if you have more than one property or if you are voting for both the price and sale length sections, etc )

We had our house for sale but with the market so bad we would have taken a huge loss, so we stayed put. It was listed for 6 months and we had two offers and both were for a little over half the asking price. And its not like we were asking that much, just enough to cover what we owed plus realtor fees and closing costs.

I'm not trying to sell right now, but my brother's family is (my brother got another job - his dream job - in another part of the country, so they had to move). Their house has been on the market since September and they haven't gotten a single offer. And it's a nice house in a pretty desirable area - a suburb of Chicago.

We want out of our house so bad! We had it on the market for 8 months in 2007 & dropped the price. We ended up giving up!

How ironic that I come across this poll just as I'm about to let you all know what has been going on in our lives.

DH accepted a job back in my home state of WV. The house went on the market 2 weeks ago, but no bites yet. We are still doing some touch ups, so hopefully in the next few weeks something will happen.

Joseph is keeping me busy, so not much packing is getting done on my end. We expect/hope to move towards the first of March.

We are all really excited about the move. We are going back to my home town, closer to my parents and the small town atmosphere we want to raise Joseph in.

Good luck to everyone on getting their houses sold. I'd love to be able to buy right now with the interest rates dropping again.

Hope there is room on the moving van1.JPG

Mommytoeli, congrats on getting an offer; I hope and pray it works out to your advantage.

Our house has been on the market for 125 days (yes, I've been counting). We've lowered the price 3 times, for a total of a $50K price drop. We've had two very low offers. We're also marketing it for rent -- anything to get some relief from two house payments.

We're in a rental 2000 miles away, and all our stuff, plus DH's job is now here, but I'm starting to think we should go back to TN. Of course we can't exactly afford to ship all our stuff back, and DH has no job there, but I have no idea when or if the house will sell - and I miss my friends and my neighborhood! The house is only 3 years old, has a great floor plan, great location, low taxes, great schools, safe neighborhood, but there's just nobody buying.

Can you tell I'm frustrated? Sorry to be a downer.

You are all scaring me to death! I might be putting my house on the market due to a job change and relocating to another part of the country. Not sure where yet. Where do you live that people would offer you 1/2 of the asking price? That would seem rather offensive to me. I'm in Vancouver WA.

We sold ours last summer, but took a loss on it. We actually got a really good price, considering the buyers planned to just knock down our cozy 1899 900 sqft home and build a McMansion on the lot. We made money versus what we bought it for, but we had invested a LOT of money in fixing it up and so we lost money overall.

Oh well. Glad to be done with it. And now those suckers are trying to sell a brand new $500K McMansion in this market. ha ha haahah. (ok, still a little bitter that they scrapped my hardwood floors, new countertops, new windows, new siding...)

We sold in July 2007

We put our house on the market in February of 2007. We only had one offer that we rejected. Once the house we really wanted dropped their price by $10,000 we did something crazy. We went back to the couple who put an offer on our house and asked if they were still interested. They said yes after dragging their feet for 3 weeks. UGH! They were first time home buyers who sucked the life out of us.

They wanted a 50 year old house to be brand new with NO flaws. HAHAHAHA! Reality check for them. Our Realtor came out the night before closing to help us prune a birch tree that had a few dead branches. He was afraid that if we said no way (which is what my husband And I said) the deal would fall through.

They also wanted a new banister on the steps, 200 amp electric upgrade from 120 amp and a few other items. We said no way to their insane requests.

Long story short get creative. We sold our house for $25,000 less then original asking price.

I am so glad that chapter of our life is over. I feel for those struggling in this market. It is nice to be in our forever home.

Good Luck I hope it is sold soon.
-Joan

We just signed a contract after 4 months on the market, and settle next week. We lowered our asking price twice, and ended up selling for $40K below our original asking price. This market stinks! We were in Northern VA and just relocated to WA for my job.

We sold our house several months ago in a few days at the price we asked for and had to compete to get the house we are in now. The market is doing well here in NC still.

ugh..i have to leave my house AGAIN right now bc someone else is coming...i can not wait to be done with this. i thought this house was my forever house....it is beautiful and in a nice area of my city....problem? don't want to live in this city ANYMORE. i want out. i have 2 more days to respond to the offer we have....i kind of hope to get a few more so i can pick. the offer we have is decent with the market hte way it is, but they want us to be out in 21 days or less. yikes! we don't even know where we are going yet! it is exciting and scary at once....wish me luck! (has anyone ever moved that quickly before....can i really do it???)

Hey Forum Friends, I am not selling but I am a Realtor in Michigan for 7 years now! Hang in there, remember that Real Estate is cyclical and it will come back. Make sure that you have your home priced to sell, unfortunatley, homes sell at what the marekt is willing to bare, not what you owe or what fee's you will pay. Store everything you can live with out for the next 6 months to a year, make sure your home has the Wow Factor, paint everything, make all repairs, replace anything worn and old, and have a Realtor who will communicate with you, is honest, and has the appropriate marketing for your market. If you need any advice, please feel free to PM me. Blessings and great success in the sale of your homes. Susie
