Potty training...
Our son is almost 2 1/2 and has been regularly going pee pee in the potty for about a month or so. He doesn't poo poo in the potty though. When does this come? Also, he doesn't tell us that he needs to use the potty, we just take him and he goes. How many times do you take your toddler to the bathroom during the day?
Just curious thanks!!!! Jenna

Our son was 3 before he was even interested so you are doing really well. I took him often, i.e before we played with this, or before we had lunch/nap ect.
Small rewards helped to with the poo, poo. I have spent a fortune in matchbox cars Good luck

Our early intervention specialist told me that you shouldn't be concerned unless they are not mastering the #2 skill by the time they are 3.5 or 42 months.

pooping often takes much longer than pee.
if you are trying to train him yet (as he isnt telling you), i would take him often, like every hour or so.

I would suggest that you try to figure out when your child is most likely to poop, and take him to the potty at those times, so he gets used to pooping in the potty. For my kids, we go after each feeding and whenever someone seems to be needing to poop. But we don't catch all pees; we'd have to go more often to accomplish that.
In my experience, once they get used to the idea that their poop is eliminated on the potty, they will hold it up to a point and eventually let you know if it's time. There was a thread not too long ago that discussed possible reasons for problems pooping in the potty. Although your son is still too young for this to worry you, you might find it interesting if you ever need to "trouble-shoot." Perhaps you could find it through a search. Good luck!

Our son turned 3 years old in February 2007 and was still in diapers. I didn't want to push him and possibly cause him to hold back and use it as a control issue. So I waited until he was ready. Then in early March (37 months) he began going pee in the potty and asked to wear big boy underwear during the day. However, he would still ask for a diaper when he had to go #2 and he still had the night time diaper. Then in May (39 months) he asked to wear underwear to bed. The only thing he had not mastered was the #2. So I waited and waited and finally one day in August (42 months) he told me he was ready to go on the potty and the next day I gave all his diapers to the pregnancy care center.
Hang in there it will happen! Good Luck

Maria Jose is 2 1/2 and she's already a master making poo poo in our regular potty. She also tells me and holds it until we get in the potty. Now we have to start working with the pee pee. My strategy is going to be to use regular underwear so she can feel when is going down and the wet sensation. Probably that will help us.
With the poo poo couple of weeks ago she was doing it in the diaper and then she didn't want to sit on it.I think that that was a start for the poo poo. We bought Elmo Potty Training and I think that helped us a lot. It comes with an Elmo doll, a tiny potty and a tiny book for Elmo. IN the potty we put also Mickey and other of her favorites. The potty was located exactly next to the real one.

my guy gets 1 treat for pee and 2 for poop--it just sort of ups the anty. However, everychild is different and you will have to do what reall works for the 2 of you. One of my children loved the sticker chart and did 2 stickers for poop. another struggled with #2 for a long time and had lots of accidents then he sarted to slip up on #1 even though he was the one who definately showed interest initially. I seem to recall realizing I was the one potty trained and laid off for 6 months or so until he was older, talked better, and had a few more motor skills mastered, and then readdressed the issue. Then it worked GREAT! The key is just not to loose your cool and do what you find works! GOOD LUCK!!!

Sounds like our timeframes for potty training are the same. My son is almost 2.5 and has been potty trained for a month or so except a diaper at bed. We use a little potty seat on the toilet and leave the light on and door open, now he just goes when he needs to. He will holler for me if he poops so I can wipe him, but other than that he goes by himself all day with no accidents. At first, I put him on the toilet about every 20 minutes and tried to coax him to go pee or poop. It took a couple days before he recognized the feeling of needing to go, and interrupted a lot of tasks during those couple days, but it worked like a charm. We didn't use any kind of treats/rewards except buying him a whole bunch of new underpants once he mastered his new skill. There is nothing wrong with giving a little treat each time they potty if that is the route you choose to take. On that note, my Aunt's grandkids are 12 & 10, and if they poop at her house, they still get gummy worms. They do help themselves to them and don't make a fuss about going to the bathroom, but it is something they have continued to do at their Grandma's house way beyond the potty training stage. Ridiculous if you ask me!!
