Exclamation Cert of Citizenship INTERVIEW???

Our 2 kids came home on IR4 visas (no visit trips). We filed for a Certificate of Citizenship after going through readoption in our county.

Today we received a letter that we have to appear for an interview for the C.O.C. That surprised me, I thought it was just paperwork from here. Did anyone else have to appear for an interview of this application?

Should I be concerned? What should I expect?

Thanks in advance.

And BTW, we are praying and hoping so hard for everyone in process now. We're in your corner

For anyone I know who got that letter, the only 'interview' was picking up the COC. Not an 'interview' in reality. Unless they are telling you to bring documentation or something that makes it appear that might be an issue, I wouldn't be concerned. It is just a rather poorly worded letter. (Something like "Your COC is ready for pickup!" would be nicer and less scarey!)

My letter says bring:
this letter
originals of each document you already submitted
all other papers which have bearing on the case
alien registration card
birth certificates for you, your spouse, your children, and the marriage cert.

Children and one parent must be present.

That sounds like more than come pick up your paper.

I got something similar back in 2003 (when you had to apply for CoCs regardless of visa before the days of automatic CoCs). The interview was a very informal meeting with a very nice immigration officer who basically went over the CoC with me to make sure everything was spelled correctly, all the dates were correct, all the information was correct re: height, weight, place of birth etc. I didn't submit any documents with the application because I hadn't filed the G884 yet and they had everything. I don't remember them looking at anything but I probably did bring the birthcertificates. I am single so marriage certificate didn't apply. You do have to turn in the green card. Then she instructed me on how to sign the photos and the certificate, put it all together and presented it to me. Back then it was a nice photo op but now you can't even bring cameras in to the building! But overall, very much no big deal.

Probably my wording of 'just picking it up' wasn't the best in that it isn't just walk up to a window and they hand you an evelope, but I still honestly think it is not a big deal. Nothing that they are asking you to bring is out of the ordinary and my understanding is that you do have to turn in the green card when you get the COC.
Easy for me to say I know, but I honestly wouldn't be worried. My bet is that it will similar to what Avoel said.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I got the same letter as you, basically waited forever in the waiting room, they went through the documents and asked a few questions. We did walk out with our COC and a little flag. We were with Cleveland office.

As far as I know the only time you need to have the oath read and stated aloud is if the child naturalizing or obtaining citizenship through his/her parents is 14 years of age or older. You are more than likely just picking up the cert.

We were with the Cleveland office too. Talk about a let down. I was very nervous when we were asked to bring everything also.

You walk in, they take you to a room go over all your paperwork and then send you back to the waiting room.

A while later they hand you a flag and a COC. After all you have been through up to this point it can be a fell like a let down.

I hope you don't mind if I ask you a quick question... when did you file?

We filed the day before the price increase went into effect and, other than a receipt, we haven't heard a thing.

We filed in Vt.

We filed in Vermont also, in late May/early June and haven't gotten our COC yet. We have been following this website (https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/Pro...viceCenter=VSC) and they just recently changed their estimated timeframe -- it used to be 6 months from receipt of application, but now they are just listing a certain application receipt date that they are processing -- Jan. 5, 2007! So, it looks like we have quite a wait ahead of us! I think what someone else mentioned on another post is probably the case -- they were inundated with applications right before the fee increase, and are trying to dig out.

My agency said it is something CIS is doing now. We had our interview a year ago when they first started them. I, too, was very concerned but the interview was really nothing. They just made sure we were the parents, had all necessary documentation, and swore that everything was true. They gave us our CoC there. Not to worry....Ali

We filed in late October. The 29th or 30th. In Cincinnati. We got our receipts within a week or so.

Thank you to all the posters who eased my mind. This board is the best
