Anyone NOT Accept Bio Sibling Referral?

Yes, I know I'm thinking waaaaaay ahead, and I don't even know that it would even happen, but just wondering if anyone has had the opportunity come up to adopt your child's bio sibling and you didn't do it. Thanks! -Cameo

Hey Cameo

Yes, we had to make the heart wrenching decision to say "no" to a bio sibling. We already had three children home - two of which are bio siblings when we got the call. We were not in a position to bring another child into our family at the time. We do, however, have contact with the family who accepted the referral and we plan to keep the boys in contact with each other as they grow up!

PM me if you want to chat about it!

I did happen to us

When we made our first visit and our Girl was 14 months old. We were told there was a 10 day old brother. This adoption has gone SO BAD and we still have to finish paying for it. There was no way to start another light of all that AND the Hague. I kept thinking about it the whole visit and was ready to go ahead and say yes anyway but they had aready refered him to someone else. Very sad and very hard.

Oh, man i have no idea what we would do - such a tough decision, just based on monetary reasons we would probably decline, but then again who knows. I mean emotionally and financially this process is draining. I guess I don't have an answer, but if it were NO, I would love to stay in contact with the other family that did take the referrral. We actually had to say no to twins, etc. for financial reasons. If money, were no object - we'd have 10 children or more!!!!

Liana has a bio brother who was adopted several years ago by someone in the US. I hope that after my adoption is complete, I will be able to contact the family, if they are willing.

I am so glad, that for whatever reason, this family did not decide to adopt Liana as well.

I cannot imagine life without her. I cannot imagine a child more suited to my nature. We are so perfect together.

So for those of you who have said no to a bio sibling a few years later, please remember that there are people like me out there.

We have just accepted, on Friday, our daughter's bio sister..it was very tough since we have a 3 1/2 week old at home and with the Hague, but we knew we had to give it our best try to bring her home...you always have to do what is best for you, your kids and the child that may be joining you...you will know in your heart.

So Sad!

Just last week we had to decline our son's bio sister. Our son's foster mother has his sister so I know she will be well taken care of. We tried to find a way but our son has only been home for 7 months and we aren't in a postion right now. We are very sad but pray that her new family will want to keep in touch with us so one day they may know each other.

We have never been in that position but if that call came we would have to decline...and it would break my heart. It would:-( Mikayla's adoption has been very, very hard on us financially and it will be years and years before we get back to where we were. There is just no way financially that we would be able to do this again, it is a miracle we were able to do it all! So, if we get that call, we would say no...and I would think about it the rest of my life...I can tell you that. It's shame, a TRUE shame that so much has to come down to money because I would take a bio sibling in a heartbeat.
Hugs

We know DS's b/mom is pg now, due in early 2008. I don't know what we'll do if/when we get that call. DH says he doesn't see how we could say no--and we both wonder how we'd afford it!

We did get that call. What a heartbreak, and I think about it everyday.

We brought DS home in January and in May we had the opportunity to adopt his brother. We had to decline. It was such a horrible position to be in, we want DS to have a brother, HIS brother, but we JUST brought "A" home. There was no way we were ready to go through that process (namely PGN) so soon.

Through our agency. we will, have contact with the family after they bring the sibling home. Cannot wait for that!!

When we went to Guatemala to visit ds number one, our attorney told us that his bio mom was pregnant again, with twins. She asked if we were interested in adopting. I told her that we had to finish that adoption first. I'm not even sure what happened after that--our attorney didn't bring it up again. Did she have the babies? Were they okay? Did she place them with another family? I wish I knew, for our son's sake.

Thank you, Quesita, for your words of encouragement. Perhaps the second adoption at that time just wasn't meant to be. Since that time my dh miraculously agreed to another adoption and we now have our second child home from Guatemala.

We have not gotten that call, but Jamie had a brother that was given up for adoption before him. Questita's comment is very true, I can''t imagine life w/o our son - another family may be out there for that child.

We are trying to locate our son's sibling - I would love him to have contact with his biological brother.

Oh I pray that I never get that call - primarily because I cannot imagine how awful it must be for the bmom/ bfamily. If I got the call today with the Hague almost upon us - and of course, the financial impact - it would just not be possible - not difficult, but simply not possible.

When all the craziness in Guat settles down and they figure out the Hague, I hope to get that phone call. I think that might be the only way that DH will be willing to do this again.
