Question question for those who are home....

Where on the PGN document does it say the day you were approved, or does it? Mine is signed by Barrios and has a date typed on it of June 29, 2007??? We entered on June 26, 2007 and were told we were out on Aug 22? I have been going thru these documents and was trying to figure out what that date was? Thanks for any input!!! Carrie

I'd say if that is the date by Barrio's signature that is the day it was signed, but it was only released in August. For Maria's adoption we were signed by Barrios in October but not released until November. It stinks to know that you worried those last few weeks for nothing!!

The date on there is the date your advisor (1st person) approved the file, not the day Barrios approved.

Ok thanks! I was thinking there wasn't any way Barrios could be efficient enough to have signed the file in 3 days! That makes more sense to me. Carrie

From what I have heard in the past (not sure if it is true) is that by law they have to approve the adoption files in like 3 days. Now, we all know that it actually takes about 2 months. So they look like they are within the law, he back dates them. Anyone else hear of this?

Interesting Jennsult. We were resubmitted on September 28, and our document was dated Oct. 1. So, there mat be something behind that.

We were signed off on February 7th, and released on April 13...I lived in Guatemala for 2 months while I was waiting to be released and even after speaking with PGN myself, they said we were waiting....

What I think happened is that the reviewer signed off on 2/7....it sat until I called PGN and begged for information...I was notified 3 days after I called that I was out. The release date of the file of 2/7 was 3 months before - but that's par for the course as far as our experience went....once you're home, you don't think about that stuff anymore!

Good luck.

Several of us discussed this when we got out back in August. I think what Jennsult said is right. By law they are supposed to approve cases in 3 days. They date it so it looks like that happens. That is how our paperwork looks. Originally I thought we just sat on a desk from 3 days until we finally got out. I do think that they just date it so legally they are safe. Our discussions back then were based on info from adoption supervisors. Regardless its just too bad it takes so long!

We were re-submitted on February 28 and were approved on March 1. We didn't get out until April 28th though.

I do believe that these docs are back-dated because of the 3-day rule. PGN is supposed to make a ruling in 3 days, but there is no way for them to do that with all of the cases they have. So, it is dated by the first reviewer and then not approved for some 7-9 weeks later.

My personal opinion is that the files are not just sitting around to make us wait. While they may be just sitting there, the reviewers are working on them and it takes that long to get them through. I think we all know people who got out in 2 weeks, but obviously someone knows someone, or they won the PGN lottery. This year alone, PGN will have moved 12,000+ cases through. Remember that they don't just do adoptions, they do other things too, so that 12,000 number is everything they do. When it comes down to it, PGN has to approve 20 adoption cases per day (based on 5000 cases approved per year) and that's not factoring any holiday's or training days in. That's a lot.

Anyway, just wanted to share some data and my opions on the whole "3 day sign-off".

Mine was 3 days after submit and released 6 weeks later. I have to think about it this way, we cannot rationalize something that is irrational. The entire procedure is not rational. The Guatemalan side is soo particular on some many things, but when I read there social worker/family court docs, they were all wrong.

Again, no rational!

In the 3.5 years I have been posting here, the concensus has been that the date on the decree is the date it was signed by the 1st reviewer, and that the director's signature is not dated.

I had someone checking on my kids' files while we were in PGN (this was before you could call) and the information I got from that person while in process substantiated that, at least in our cases.
