We loved the Grand Tikal. We stayed there on our 3rd visit trip. We have also stayed at the Marriott and Westin, and although we liked them too, the Grand Tikal was our favorite. On the downside, it is further from the Embassy then the others.

Have a great trip!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn, twice before Very Nice and it is only a block from the Westin. We could see the Westin from our window as well as the Marriot (I think the Mariott is like 4-5 blocks away)
The staff are wonderful, we ran out of formula and they called the local pharmacy and had it delivered for us.
They also did some translation for us at no cost either.

We stayed at the Intercontinental on our pick-up trip. It is very nice; pretty new and modern. There aren't many other adoptive families, but that didn't bother us. We had stayed at the Westin for our visit trip and they are pretty comparable.

Good luck!

We stayed at the Quinta Real for our son's pick up trip in Feb. It is a beautiful hotel, gorgeous grounds and wonderful staff. Not a lot to do there, but we went out a lot with our attorney and his family during the day. More and more adoptive families are staying there now, so you may see some other families there with their children. Our attorney highly recommends the Quinta Real for visit and pick up trips. He feels it is very safe and it is not a hotel that a lot of adoptive families stay at so you do not have to worry about foster moms being bothered or your safety. There is a gift shop in the Quinta Real, a jewelry store, and a beautiful restaurant with a great breakfast buffet. We plan on staying at the Quinta Real again when we pick up our 3yr. old daughter, which we hope will be in the next month or two. We have stayed at the Marriot 3 times and it was nice, but too busy for us. I definitely recommend the Quinta Real if you do not mind not having a lot of other adoptive families to talk too.

There is also the Biltmore. I didn't stay there but know people who have - they say it isn't as nice as the Westin but that it was fine - it is connected to the Westin by a hall or tunnel. You can eat at the Westin hotel (breakfast is yummy) and use the Westin pool. I think if you ask they will also give you a key card to the Westin family floor so you can hang out with other families if you like. Good luck!

We stayed at both the Holiday Inn (yes, Holiday Inn) and the Crowne Plaza and loved, loved, loved both!! The back of the Holiday Inn faces the Westin, so that's where you are at. The Crowne is closer to the airport.

Have a great trip!!

If you only looked online, you might want to phone the hotels. I got a room at the Marriott this way, even though their website said they had no rooms available. Have a wonderful pick-up trip!!!

We stayed at the Grand Tikal twice and really liked it. Also, we stayed at the Clarion last P/U trip and it is clean and nice-- but no pool or much lobby. It is nearby the Westin.

Thank all of you for your suggestions. We managed to get into the Grand Tikal. If anyone else is going to be there next week, then we will see you there.

Oh, I was just getting ready to tell you to try Hotel Casa Serena, they have apartment-style units in the heart of zona 10. We stayed there before and will again.

But I'm glad you found a place at the GT, we were there too and it is a nice hotel. The attached mall has lots of food choices.

We stayed at teh Quiinta Real and the Tikal Both were very nice. The TiKal was more down to earth while the Quinta Real was GOREGEOUS with tons of ambiance the rooms were beautiful and we loved it. It was COLD in August and the pool was outdoor so we didn't use it but, it was a quiet respite from the city. they have a daily Several times a day really shuttle that will take you to the artisian market, hyper pais or where ever you need. You are also up on the hill and just over it is a very Los Angeles looking type mall and eating locations. We went to bpoth in a rented car and felt right at home.
